That's how you beat Gonzaga...

Do you really think Huggs would have stayed any longer than he did at KSU, though?
Yes, and even if he didn't a season with Jamont Gordon, Tyler Smith, Michael Beasley, Bill Walker, and OJ Mayo would have been worth it.

Pearl has brought excitement to a program...where before the was none or very little. Having said that...I'm begining to wonder about his coaching methods. Our guys are either not listening to CBP...or they care more about their own agenda.

That's a nice dream. Somehow I doubt he would have been able to pull all of those guys to the same place.

Tennessee could have hired Bob Huggins. That should have been the end of the search.

Huggins hasn't sniffed the Final Four since '92. I'm not promising that Pearl will get us there. I just don't see how Huggins would be such an upgrade. Others will disagree - which is easy to do while the team is struggling.

I will have to agree with that. When I was doing brackets for the big dance I never picked Hugg's Cincinnati teams to go past the sweet sixteen and they never did.

I guess you missed the Elite Eight appearances in '93 and '96. How many of those has Pearl made? Also, he had easily the best team in the country in 2000 before Kenyon Martin got hurt.

I saw that team play live. They were scary good and would have won the NC that year. They demolished several ranked teams were undefeated in CUSA that year. CUSA was rated the 3rd toughest league that year (for the young fans who only know today's CUSA).

Good for you, you want a cookie? Why don't you go discuss it with your 20 Tiger High fans, we don't care.

My bad on '93 and '96. That was quite a while ago, but I knew for sure that he hadn't returned to the Final Four. Unfortunately, we'll never know how 2000 would have turned out.

Pearl took the best team he'll ever have and got incinerated by Louisville in the Sweet 16.

As soon as I boast about a win on a Memphis basketball forum, feel free to insert this drivel. Otherwise, it's predictably meaningless and misplaced.

Why is it misplaced? It followed the trend of VN member bashes Coach X, .......

Seriously? You bust on Pearl for losing to a better team and then pump up Bob Huggins in the same thread? I understand he's a personal friend of yours and all, but come on.

you seem to have forgotten last year's team.

Pete Mickeal
Kenny Satterfield
DerMarr Johnson
Jermaine Tate
Kenyon Martin

That team would beat this years UT team by 20+.

This may be a question for Hat. I have always thought Tyler's game compared to Pete Mickeal's while at UC. Fair comparison?

WOW! As much hate as hatvol has spewed toward Pearl's past indiscretions, and he brings up Bob Huggins! Can I just say double WOW?

I realize you are a pretty smart guy and I realize you think you are even smarter than everyone gives you credit for, but this is a ridiculous comment fueled by nothing more than your dislike for Pearl.

BTW, now way UT was going to hire Huggins. He might be a great coach, but he is otherwise one of the bigger sleazebags in college basketball. You can't argue it either. It is the reason why no one of any prestige will ever give him a shot.

Get over your love of Huggins and your hate of Pearl. It clouds your otherwise informed opinion in the sport
