They will swallow a lie whole because it confirms the assumptions they have and they finally have “proof” they can point to and say see you ARE terrible people and this proves it. When they finally pin Smollett to the wall my bet is he says something along the lines of he felt a duty to protect gay black people and he knew this would help raise awareness and perhaps save a life when the MAGA murder crews roll through midtown looking for prey.
