I guess people have forgotten the subtle messages in the lyrics from Cop Killer, F tha Police, Bush Killa, Fight the Power, et al.IDK who is saying that, but yeah, if you assume he means minorities and you won't hear it any other way, then you run the risk of sending that message.
However, if you completely ignore the idea that this maybe intentionally has racist undertones, you are practicing the same willful self deceit.
Lyrics are subtle and messaging often isn't explicit. Happiness Is a Warm Gun is not about weapons, you know? Aldean had to know how some people would take this. It's by design and he gets to have it both ways. Pretty genius.

Since when is Charleston a small town? More importantly, who cares about about some country song or the personality of the singer? If some dude wants to write songs to pander to a demographic, so what? Ever heard of Ethel Merman, Lee Greenwood, Marilyn Manson, Lady Gaga, and on and on and on.
Let's not forget the not-so-subtlety of about half the RATM catalog. Or the lesser-known Body Count song KKK Bitch.
I actually owned all of these. Kudos for the Body count reference...i had the album in junior high and the self-titled track was a banger. Still listen to RATM from time to time. Dont listen to rap really anymore but NWA, Public Enemy, and many more were far more violent and disrespectful than anything i see today.
Bro country is terrible IMO. All of it. Every.single. song is :
Dirt road
Truck full of beer
Girl scantily clad
Smoke weed
Rinse and repeat ad nauseum. Throw in a couple obscure references to farm/tractor/animal despite these dudes being raised almost exclusively in middle class suburbs or richer. The average middle school kid could write pretty much every song in this genre. Most of these clowns benefit greatly from teenage girls crushing on them like Backstreet boys and NSYNC etc did...
