Predictions?

Rockies in 6. They just need a split in Boston; if they can get it, they'll have a shot. The Bostons will be crippled in Denver without the DH.

Boston in 5... or seven, just not six.

Colorado doesn't have to win game 1, but they can't leave boston down 0-2.

Maybe I shouldn't say that I predict the Rockies to win in six as much as I just hope they will. The Sox are the better team; the long layoff really hurts the Rockies. But it's a short series, so anything can happen.

I predict Beckett wins 2 games. So then Colorado has to win 4 of 5. That's a tall order. Rooting for the Rockies but thinking the Sox get it.

I've heard multiple people say that recently. How is a seven game playoff a "short series"? I always thought a 3 or 5 game series was a short series when compared to seven. Best of seven to my knowledge has been the testament to a regular series. If I'm not mistaken it has gone 9 games a couple of times, but 7 has always been the standard. I usually consider myself pretty savvy when it comes to sports lingo, but this one baffles me.

BTW, I'm just afraid when the Rockies suffer that first loss, the wheels could fall off. If they fall behind the Sox early, it's over.

Rockies in 7. One of the best World Series ever. Its going to be like the 75 WS and Manny will hit a dramatic walk off in game 6 that everyone will talk about forever even though they will still lose the series. Thats my prediction.

As a Braves fan, I've seen way too many dominant starters lose in the playoffs to good-hitting teams to concede both those games to the Red Sox yet. And Beckett's career ERA in Coors is 3.60, which is still excellent but not exactly dominant.

I have the Red Sox in 5. The Rockies haven't played in forever. That has to kill their momentum. Meanwhile, Boston just rallied from a 3-1 deficit.

Any playoff series is a short series. The best teams in baseball this year won fewer than 60% of their games; the worst team won right at 40%. There's a lot of random action in baseball, which is why they play 162 games for it to all even out. Seven games between a team with a .593 winning percentage and a .552 winning percentage is only a little better than a coin flip.

(Of course it's not quite that simple, since the AL is a stronger league, but still. Just look at last year.)

I figured that it just doesn't add up for me, so I assumed there was more to it. Like I said, I've heard a lot of people use it, so nothing against you, I just think it's dumb. It's how the fall classic works. I think best of seven is the best method of finding a true champion. No one plays seven game series all year, until the playoffs so it's still longer than any othe series, save the LCS. The best team will win, and I think that team is the Red Sox.

Over 162 games, St. Louis was barely over a .500 team last year; Detroit won 95 games in the stronger league. Yet St. Louis won four out of five.

How many times during the season does one team beat another 10-2 one day, and then turn around the next and lose 4-0? Seven games isn't enough for all that kind of thing to even out. Sometimes the better team loses.
