Which 5*'s are we legitimately in the running for, and what are our chances at landing any of them?

Some people dont understand that, they think were still the UT of the 90's & that we have Peyton Manning, Joey Kent, Leonard Little, Al Wilson, ect... on the sidelines. They dont understand where the program is truly at & for some of the ones that do they think its all Dooleys fault :eek:lol:.

... which is why they should turn in their fan cards immediately. They're not real fans. It's common sense to know that our program is worse than a mess. It is a disaster. It will take a few years to clean up this mess, and as for Coach Dooley, he'll get it together. It will be frustrating at times, but I'll take solace in the fact that we have a coach who, though not as experienced as names like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, or Joe Paterno, will take us to heights we never thought imaginable.

If you actually believe Dooley will take our program to a place that Neyland or Fulmer couldn't then I do not know what to say.

"I was listening to 104.5 today and everyone on the show had the perception that we are getting dominated as far as recruiting in the SEC, and cited the fact that the only two teams behind us are Kentucky and Vanderbilt..... are we looking through orange shaded glasses or is this class acceptable?"

(Sorry, I'm new here and am not entirely sure how to quote posts.)

For now, given the volatile situation this program is in, I think this class is acceptable. We're out to simply fill needs with as many bodies as we can get. The talking heads you see on TV and the recruiting sites are looking through a bunch of star-shaped glasses, and only feel that if there are no four or five star athletes on the board, then there will be no success in the coming year. I would love for Dooley to go out and get guys like Clowney, Crowell, Drew, Wilder, and other top prospects, but the truth of the matter is that we are not in a position to pursue prospects of that caliber, at least until our program stabilizes. Personally, I think that Coach Dooley and his staff are doing a great job with their efforts and a phenomenal job seeking out "diamonds in the rough" and evaluating them and pursuing them. I think that Coach Dooley will not have a barnburner of a class, but will have a solid Top 15 (I'd say around 12th or 13th) class. I don't listen to the talking heads unless they actually know what they're talking about. :)

Nice post.

A little help with the quote issue. Click the quote button of the post you want to quote and then type underneath it. Then just hit submit reply and you have successfully posted a response to a quote.

Thanks. I actually figured it out before you made this post. I appreciate the help. :hi:

Where is that place? What achievements would make it so?

Let's see...

Let's start with making it to a bowl game. Then, winning the SEC East and representing the East in the championship game. Then, by winning the SEC championship. Then, winning the national championship. Then again. And again. And again. And again... Oh, you get the idea. I actually posted something like this before. All it takes is baby steps.

It's nor how you start, its how you finish. With that said, we're in on a lot of great recruits that have us in the top 2-3. We won't miss on all of them.

If you actually believe Dooley will take our program to a place that Neyland or Fulmer couldn't then I do not know what to say.

How can our fanbase want more than what Neyland and Fulmer(early years) accomplished? Our younger fanbase is so spoiled from the 90's that they think we have always had that much success.

I am not saying that I don't want us to be at the top of college football, but to expect it year in and year out, decade in and decade out is completely delusional.

I do, however, believe that Dooley is very capable of making us very competitive in not only our conference, but nationally. We have to be patient enough to get the players here to do so. NSD is still a long way off and a lot can change between it.

yes... I lived through many rebuilding years, as the year after Major's won a NC at Pitt and came home...his first quote after seening the team (published) was that "the cupboard is empty and well has run dry at Tennessee".. we saw the results of that for the next five years, and he started at better place than Dooley and was a NC caliber coach

The position that we have put ourselves in with higher rated prospects like Couch, Pagan, Richardson, Wright etc. speaks volumes. The coaches have identified the needs on this team and are recruiting accordingly.

This question isn't most relevant, and I don't claim to know a ton about our recruiting....Isn't is understood we should use all 25(?) scholarships this year, even if the last 3-4 are just athletic bodies?

You have to remember that most of the hosts on 104.5 see the world through Vandy glasses. Of course the former Titans do not, but most of the rest, including Clay Travis, were Vanderbilt students.

Travis does not. He doesn't give a darn about Vanderbilt football. He's just being super negative right now for no reason. He was well aware of what was going to happen in the offseason, and now he acts like he is surprised that we are sitting at 2-5.

I think this class can help put us back near the top. This class seems mostly about building depth at O and Dline. These positions are not always glamorous but if we build the trenches right, then we can focus more on skill positions next year and beyond.

I think the players that Dooley is recruiting speak to his ability to identify talent more than a lack of ability to land the big prospects. More can be accomplished by spending that extra time in the film room and at games than can be spent chasing prospects.

Simply in terms of landing the prospects that they are after hard I would give this staff a B+. It's not like they are missing on big prospects. They are taking commitments from players that they want -- those who fit the scheme and will be solid producers.

That's what we do not have that we need so desperately right now.

I think he wants the big prospects like everyone else but we have to fill too many spots on the line. We need wider bodies on the d-line and I think a lot of our o-line was addressed last year. We should be pretty good in 2012. If he hits with Wright, Richardson and Clear this class will be just what we needed.

To be honest, it would be better if many of our current commits are recruited over in the next few years, sure they have the potential to provide SEC depth in the future, but this class doesn't scream National Championship team core, not even close.

And I don't think there is anything wrong with establishing a solid base now with this class and then working to recruit over them.

If this is Dooley's strategy it would be genius.

Must get depth now to fill in gaps. There are a few elite players from 2010 and maybe a few from 2011 that will be studs as Juniors and Seniors. So go ahead and recruit over the 2011 depth with 2012 and beyond.

Pure genius.
