The 2014 Winter Olympics - Sochi

Well except soccer and coffee houses

And can you enlighten me about your avatar. I keep thinking that's Mike Shanahan (?) at a local dojo. Is that you? Is that someone else? Is that from some karate film? Seriously, what's up? haha!

It's Master Helio Gracie. One of the founders of Beazilian Jiu Jitsu. I used to train, going to again

My 3 boys train at Gracie, under the Carlos Gracie tree. Their trainer is 3rd degree bb given by Carlos Sr prior to his death. They got their butts whipped tonight and all are already passed out at 7:45. Cardio/double leg/single leg training, then 30 minutes of tap or be tapped. Great training.

I've trained like that with Sam Braga, Relson Gracie was the most technical training in my life. It was awesome

Somebody tell the Netherlands to stop it already. We get it, you can skate.

Other than Shaun White, US speedskating has been the biggest disappointment in Sochi. Some are blaming the suits, which is interesting, because they have been labeled as the worlds fastest speedskating suits. They were secretly developed by Under Armour and Lockheed Martin over several years. It's puzzling to say the least.

Biathlon got crazy today.

I gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I'm familiar with the Gracie family tree. I take it Helio is the patriarch? I know they're Royce and...other R-guy...and other brother dude...and other guy...but that's about the extent of my awareness of the family.

He is the patriarch, there are 9 kids on his side, I think his brother had 7

Latvia putting up a fight, despite being dominated end to end. They won my heart when they got stomped by Russia at World Juniors a few years back, when you consider their association has about 1200 registered players, the fact that they're on the level they are is impressive.

Ozalish(sp) is in his 40s and is giving his all for Latvia. Major respect to that team.

Really wish there was more love for speed skating in the US. Just like track cycling. I really don't understand the love for NASCAR over the other, more demanding, sports that go in ovals.

Anyways, the Dutch are great at skating and cycling, both of which are huge forms of transportation in their country. I'm quite jealous, really.

After today, the US is tied with Norway for the most medals with 13.

Really incredible considering how bad we have been in the alpine skiing and speed skating events. Sweeping ski slope style helped big time.

Yes to both of you. And tied with 4 golds. However, Germany is kicking ace with the gold medal count at 7. I've heard that different countries account for the Olympics in different ways. For instance, I've heard that America places more emphasis on overall medal count while numerous other countries merely care about how many golds are won. Both approaches make sense, when you think about it: on the one hand, only the first place (gold) is the actual winner; on the other hand, if the IOC is going to hand out three medals per event, you kind of have to count them as well.

US vs Russia tomorrow morning. Big game, I expect Putin to be there. Embarrassing Russia on home ice would bring a smile to my face.

What about the brouhaha being made over the speed skating suits?

It's kind of comical that they were rolled out to such fanfare, and now people are wondering if they hinder performance.
