The 2023 March Madness “Other Games” Thread

And this was the reason I didn’t pick the ugly red team any further than I did. Just knew covering up the truth wouldn’t pan out

If Texas loses, no 1 or 2 seed makes it past sweet 16. Top eight seeds would all be gone. I’m with LG. With NIL and Portal, blue blood era is ending.

I mentioned that about a month ago. Changing of the guard. Immediate eligibility for transfers is also huge.

I would like to see one-and-done legislated out of the NCAA. Take away roster spots if a school has too many fake student-athletes that don’t make progress towards a degree. Let the NBA have all of them.

With the portal and even more of the top players leaving college early for the NBA the consistency isn't there anymore. The blue bloods will not build dynasties. Teams will go up and down every year.

At best you'll get teams with a 1-2 year window. Like your guys in the 2000s, or Xavier going 1 and 1 during its dominant stretch. The only thing that'll solve this is more money to keep some of the talent around for a few additional years. Even then, it won't be very effective, because the transfer portal forces every donor and school into bidding wars every season. It'll continue to spiral out of control.

Absolutely agree about one-and-done. I don't need them in college. Don't particularly want to see them in college. Nothing against them, it's just not healthy for the sport. I'd rather support guys who are at Tennessee for their careers, as opposed to supporting a revolving door of names who come and go at their convenience (aka Kentucky).

Yup. I’m even more radical. Turn colleges back into learning institutions with student organized and funded club teams if the students want to play some kind of recreational sports, and do away with big business athletics. Problem is there no where to take it and make the same money. “College pride” is the source of all the money in big business athletics. Alumni want to pour money into bragging rights.

Living in Alabama, you can't believe how relieved I am that they lost. I can proudly say, "Dang boy, we got THAT far". They would be incorrigible if they made final four or, heaven forbid a natty. I'll have to go shower after saying the following: "I would rather see Kentucky in the final 4 than Bama". Not to mention how sleazy they have been about those involved with the murder of a young woman. I'll bet they are almost back to Tuscaloosa by now.. HA.
