The 2nd career adventures of Yankee

Dont ever learn what you are doing. It clouds the mind.Newbies are great because they have no preconceived ideas about customers.
Truth. My first cousin sold more cars than anyone at the dealership when he first started. I sold cars briefly at Beaty Chevrolet in Knoxville in 1979, when they were still downtown. My first sale was a 4 door brown 1972 Mercury Marquis. They had the car on their lot for months when I got there. They were asking $2,995, and had it booked at a little over $2,000. I sold it for the full price of $2,995 because I didn't know any better.

Good advice for all salespeople. I've been doing it at the same store for thirty years.I am starting some training for my four new hires tommorow. 😁
When I started at Beaty, they gave me zero training. I remember having to ask where the keys were for a car that my first customer wanted to look at, and how to fill out the deal sheet. Most of the salesmen didn't like the idea of a new guy to take bread off their tables.
I remember my little office behind the sales floor. The first thing that I did was to turn my desk sideways so the customer could sit at the end of the desk, and not to have the desk be a psychological barrier between us. I thought that would make them feel like I was on their side.

Good move on your part. Body language plays a huge role in closing deals.

Two things made me leave the business. The main one was that I had the opportunity to come back home and run the already successful family business. The secondary reason was that the Beaty family sold out and things were going to change. The reason that I chose Beaty was that they were 7th Day Adventists and closed the dealership at sundown on Friday, and didn't reopen until Monday morning. That was getting ready to change to being open 7 days a week.

I left a message weeks ago with a local Jeep dealer where I've bought several cars in the past, asking for a call back if they could give me a Gladiator Rubicon at zero interest for 84 months, like the commercial says. They know me and know I would qualify, if they actually want to sell a popular model at that deal. Still waiting for the call back. The promotion ended May 1, so I expect my phone will blow up this week.

With all the pandemic stuff going on, the message probably just got lost in the shuffle. It doesn't cost them money to honor a manufacturer incentive.

The ads always say 'select models' and I know the Gladiator was their top seller in the 1Q so I figured I was pissing in the wind anyway. But will the feds printing trillions, inflation cannot be too far off and 0% for 84 months is almost free money. If I was in car sales, I think the manufacturer commercials would be a mixed blessing at best. The incentives get people in the door but most people won't qualify and even fewer will be able to get what they want with the incentive. I guess that's where the salesmanship part comes in.

Started off this month with a new Malibu RS as well. Told the manager to get one for next month 🤣

The 0% isn’t really that good*. You lose the cash back bonus. You don’t get both.

Unless you aren’t carrying negative equity AND have a decent down payment

Depends on amount financed and the cash back amount. For example, on a $40k vehicle, the difference in 0% and 3.9% on $40k over 60 months is over $4k.

Facts matter.

Speaking of car sales. Don’t ever go to Jenkins and Wynne Ford/Honda.
They damaged my Mustang (steering wheel) and after the service manager admitted guilt, denied it the next day. I’ve since filed a BBB complaint
