He was traded to the Yankees prior to the 2004 season. He opted out of his existing contract four seasons later. The second contract has nothing to do with how he got to New York in the first place.
I apologize for misremembering the details of how the Rodriguez/Red Sox/Yankees thing went down. I knew that at one point he was willing to leave money on the table to get out of Texas and into the NYY/BOS cauldron.
For the sake of my question let's say he loses his appeal and the 211 game ban stands. Since he is allowed to play the rest of the year while his appeal takes place would those 211 games roll into 2015 or does the suspension only cover the rest of 2013 and the 2014 games that the suspension stated. I'm just not real clear on that. I would think yes, but not sure.
