Actually you will see varied opinions on here. There just happens to be a small group of us who are fed up with CBP's lack of attention to big details like defense and recruiting competent PGs. Anytime we voice these concerns, we are called idiots and then someone whines about hat hurting his feelings. It's a ridiculous cycle, and it got old long before you got here.
I'm still waiting for Griff to show up and say it's going to be my fault when Pearl leaves for one of those jobs he can't get a sniff of.

Thornton is from DC. DC is a major recruiting area for Duke, Georgetown, and Villanova. Georgia.....not so much. Offer lists are interesting - but not anything close to a final indicator of talent.

That plays a part, but you don't think that teams would offer great talent if its further away?

Duke, for example, has better connections with coaches, AAU teams, etc in DC than in Georgia. So if they have the need for one PG and the time to focus on recruiting one the hardest, do they go after the long shot in Georgia (who is the better player) or do they go for the slightly inferior player (who is still good, don't get me wrong) who plays in DC and they have a much better shot at landing?

I bet those two are going to have wonderful stories for the three other guys over at the Site For The Mentally Deficient where they normally hang out. They'll regale them with stories of how bravely they fought for Prince Bruce. I do think it's more than a coincidence that they come from a site that is affiliated with Roy Adams' outfit.

Back on topic.

I really don't feel like wading through the crap to find anything pertinent to original conversation. How much influence does Young really have on Pinkston? Further, will Pinkston be walking into a good situation if he were to go to 'Nova, from a PT standpoint?

Considering the direction of the program as of late, they need to take some shots here and there. Duke is barely a shell of what they used to be.

1. A lot.
2. They've recruited well, so he'll have to earn minutes there.

Why do I get the sneaky suspicion if we jettisoned Shay or Forbes and hired Kimani Young that his opinion of the "perfect situation" for Pinkston would change?

right, wrong or indifferent, i think a good number of college basketball fans believe this suspicion to be more true than not when it comes to aau (and other) coaches and recruits overall. was it not a factor in tyler smith's original decision not to come to UT when Pearl didn't keep a former coach of his?

to me, it's a shame that some individuals use teenage recruits as pawns/stepping stones to advance their own careers.

Yes it is. I like Pearl, but I get tired of seeing extreme Pearl-lovers get upset when he gets criticized.

Criticism is not the issue, it's the personal agenda of one person, who gathered a number of followers to his cause. When you are just making stupid remarks like calling Pearl "tanning bed" (Among other things) and constantly mocking him and anyone who dares to support him, then it's not criticism. It shouldn't be surprising some went out of their way, on a Tennessee site, to back Pearl and his accomplishments.

I made a post about our season prospects with criticisms along with our strengths, yet all some could inject was negative feedback. It's ridiculous.

I kinda see what you're getting at, but just accept it and move on. Hat has a legitimate dislike of Pearl, both personally and professionally, and has listed reasons of his dislike. Arguing over and over isn't going to change his feelings about him. I support Pearl, but I accept and understand his weaknesses as a coach, and I also understand that there are some Tennessee fans who have little faith that Pearl can get us past an Elite 8, at best. But it gets old hearing the same defense about why Pearl is great such as..

"He took us to a #1 ranking."
"He made Tennessee relevant again."
"He has taken us farther in the tourney than any other coach we have had."
"He has more postseason wins than any coach we have had."
"He's had good recruiting classes."

This isn't directly towards you, but it gets old seeing new posters arguing with Hat using the same cycle of arguments, and it also gets old for those same people to label those who criticize Pearl as "Hat-followers."

Sorry for the long rant.

I can understand these points. At the same time, it's the offseason and the arguments are pretty much the same all the way around until we have something new of substance.

I'd like to see an Elite 8 before I go and give that much credit. Pearl basketball has been very exciting and enjoyable, but right now he seems content to just enjoy his money and have fun. It would be fine if he had built a team that is a regular Final Four contender, but he hasn't. It is just better than what we had before, so a majority of fans enjoy it without question. At some point the fans have to demand better regardless of what they think of Bruce. You play to win the game.

Well, Pearl wins a lot of games. And, if you want to know what a coach who sits on his ass, you have to look at the Jerry Green Era. If Pearl ends up like this, then, yes, we need a new coach. Right now, though, I see two NYC kids in recruiting and a handful of other prospects either in the fold or potential Vols, elling me that work is beng done. This is much different than going to Houston a couple of times to get Andy Ikeakor and Brandon Crump.

Orangetanker,
I have criticized Pearl for both on and off court behavior I disagreed with and yet I was lumped in as a blind Pearl follower.

This boils down to Hatvol vs everyone who does not bow down to him. His "personal" dislike for Bruce Pearl is not legitimate and it is what I mocked over and over because it is hilarious.

Unimane is one of many on this site including me who have criticized Bruce Pearl but have been branded Pearl apologists because we disagree with some of the idiotic hyperbole coming from a bitter former AAU coach.

It is pretty simple.

What's funny is I flat out said Crawford to Memphis, then I was more or less attacked for it, then they either forgot about it or decided they no longer wanted him. Typical.

emain who attacked you? It certainly was not me. I liked your input on the predictions thread.

Different thread... I may be wrong but I seem to remember some folks taking offense to my claiming he would be in Memphis and folks were only interested in him because of Vegas anyway.

I definitely remember the Vegas part. Hat was one of the ones saying he was rated much higher because of some big shots in Vegas. I remember because I had not read about that tournament and I was impressed Hat and the others he was talking to had. He does read alot and know alot in terms of what is published on blogs and news reports.

Crawford was definitely the hero in that tournament, but his team was stacked. I may end up being wrong about the guy, but I just don't think he is nearly as good as some are making him out to be.

As for hat, he has been a pretty consistent source of talk from the coaches circles. Like him or not, he has certainly proven to be connected.
