Not sure how you can control crowds over a 100+ mile course, but the contrast in security in cycling events versus arena sporting events is pretty striking.

Well, you really can't. It's not possible to fence off 100+ miles of road for a day. Even then people wouldn't stay inside them.

Bummer. I think I've ridden on every brick road left here. Some are in bad shape.

Weather looks perfect this week to get some miles in, too bad I need some time to recover from my trail 10k and long hike I did this weekend. Maybe Sunday and my other day off I can get out for something long.

Agreed. They sound great planning them and when I stop I feel I could have gone longer but in the middle I'm like why am I doing this?

I had no intention on riding that far, I just felt great so I didn't stop. A Forest Gump moment, if you will. I also ran 5 miles afterwards... Which was dumb, in retrospect.

Riding 2 days of RAGBRAI starting Friday morning.

69 miles in driving rain and winds of 30+ yesterday and 71 miles of hills today @ an average of 17.2 mph. My legs are sore.

I am looking at getting back into mountain biking. I really have no preference on make. I guess the latest is the 29ers so I recon I am leaning towards those. I have plenty of experience, just have been out of the loop for a long time. What would you guys suggest? Budget is under 2k.
