The All Things Cycling Thread

Thoroughly impressed with the trails and all the work of Urban Outdoors. I had forgotten how awesome the quarry is down there. Great ride above the water at Forks of the River. The heat and humidity did not help my apparently-sagging level of fitness.

I rode through Forks of the River today: the industrial park, not any trails.

Cruised by the Ramsey House.

So I've been mountain biking for a few years now and love it. Now I'm looking to get into road biking on a bit of a budget. Thinking about the Trek 1.1? Any suggestions for decent cheap bikes that don't suck?

All bike shops should have entry level models in stock that don't suck. Go to several shops and test ride as many as you can. Buy the one you like best.

Mere inches away from being t-boned tonight. Woman ran a red light as I was beginning my ascent of the final hill to my house. If I'd been 1 second faster I wouldn't be typing this right now.

She was the second person to run a red and nearly hit me today.

Damn bro that's some scary stuff. I'm always nervous over on campus at UK because some of the cyclists are all over the crowded streets. The few times I bike myself I try and stick to the neighborhoods, and avoid crossing roads.

I commute everywhere by bike and I've found a lot of low traffic routes and that hill is generally pretty safe, but there's a bar on the corner and I suspect the driver was headed there.

Leaving for work yesterday and there is a cyclist on the ground and a Jeep Cherokee in the intersection. Fortunately police and medics were there. Dont know what happened but I would never ride that area in the morning. 55 mph 4 lane during rush hour even with wide shoulders that's not smart.

Stop signs are apparently just a suggestion for both motorists and cyclists. I hate that my daily commute takes me right past the high school when kids are driving to class.

EDIT: Aaand my coworker was hit by a car on his way to job #1. That's the second friend of mine hit in the last 2 weeks.

No police around? They seem to like school zones here.

Left my house for class just after the storm stopped. Perfect timing. Thank Jesus for fenders, I'm completely dry.

Riding the 37 mile option of a Gran Fondo on Sunday. First time I've ever done a road cycling event. We're supposed to led out by a group of Porsches.

Should have gone for a longer option. Are you riding with friends or going on your own?

On my own. I haven't been riding enough to go longer. Next option was 75 miles with 2 mountains and 6500'+ of elevation. The gran fondo is 105 miles with 10,000'+ of elevation. Jeremiah Bishop puts it on. These are his training routes.
