I need some all season riding gear. I got a "new to me" Specialized S-Works mtb and plan on wearing it out this fall and winter. Have to get it dialed in though, probably going to ditch the front suspension and go fully rigid.
Rigid is fun. Niner carbon fork. Long sleeve jersey. Legs get warm quickly. Thick socks. Good gloves.
Niner makes nice stuff but I don't think they make anything that would fit a 26" setup that was originally intended to have about 80mm of travel. The S-Works is a barely ridden 98 frame. It has (had) a Manitou Skareb Elite on it that I replaced with a Z2 Atom Bomb but I don't think either are going to do the trick for me.
I will probably do a Trigon fork. I love rigid bikes. My Fat Chance was rigid and I have been riding 24" BMX bikes more than anything else until very recently so I am used to picking my lines.
As long as I have ridden around here it has been a problem. I suspect other places have similar issues with people who just hate seeing a bike on the road.
Think a lot of it depends on where you live. Here outdoor sports is a becoming part of the community and is starting to have an economic impact. People are used to seeing bikes and the vast majority are very courteous and friendly.
I live at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. People are used to seeing bikes and still find it within themselves to be jerks with enough regularity that I prefer to keep my tires on dirt. That said probably half of those cars are from out of town and most of my bad experiences were long ago.
I haven't had anything hucked at me in a long time now so I guess things are looking up.
Ridden in that area. Never seen so many people in a hurry and pissed off to see some nature. It's like they obliged to drive Cades Cove so they can get back to putt putt and go carts
