The All Things Cycling Thread

Missed two turns and rode an extra 7-8 miles but had a blast. Fantastic scenery and perfect roads.

See, you could have done 105.

Lol. I woulda got lost in WV and still be riding today. Next year I'm gonna attempt the 78. I gotta get better with my nutrition on long rides. I don't realize how much I'm burning and tend to bonk after 30-40 miles.

Freaking front derailleur cable slipped or broke on my way to class this morning, leaving me in my small chainring up front. It's time for some maintenance.

It's so nice today. Out riding around town after class. Going to go to the art museum. It's perfect out. Might be the last nice day off in a long time

Weather has been perfect but evenings getting shorter sucks. Think I'm going to get a trainer for the winter

I need some all season riding gear. I got a "new to me" Specialized S-Works mtb and plan on wearing it out this fall and winter. Have to get it dialed in though, probably going to ditch the front suspension and go fully rigid.

Rigid is fun. Niner carbon fork. Long sleeve jersey. Legs get warm quickly. Thick socks. Good gloves.

For mtb my winter riding gear consists of under armour, sweatshirts, baggy shorts, bandana/cycling cap and gloves

Niner makes nice stuff but I don't think they make anything that would fit a 26" setup that was originally intended to have about 80mm of travel. The S-Works is a barely ridden 98 frame. It has (had) a Manitou Skareb Elite on it that I replaced with a Z2 Atom Bomb but I don't think either are going to do the trick for me.

I will probably do a Trigon fork. I love rigid bikes. My Fat Chance was rigid and I have been riding 24" BMX bikes more than anything else until very recently so I am used to picking my lines.

I just assumed it was a 29er. Haha.

Yeah it is more old school. I have never seen a 29'r in a small frame size that I like. Canfield comes close though.

My background is more BMX related so I tend to prefer small and flickable bikes.

Eh. It happens once every month or so, not nearly that often considering I ride everywhere everyday.

As long as I have ridden around here it has been a problem. I suspect other places have similar issues with people who just hate seeing a bike on the road.

Think a lot of it depends on where you live. Here outdoor sports is a becoming part of the community and is starting to have an economic impact. People are used to seeing bikes and the vast majority are very courteous and friendly.

I live at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. People are used to seeing bikes and still find it within themselves to be jerks with enough regularity that I prefer to keep my tires on dirt. That said probably half of those cars are from out of town and most of my bad experiences were long ago.

I haven't had anything hucked at me in a long time now so I guess things are looking up.

Ridden in that area. Never seen so many people in a hurry and pissed off to see some nature. It's like they obliged to drive Cades Cove so they can get back to putt putt and go carts

Haha, it's the same going over Wears Valley into Pigeon Forge. It's not like they're gonna run out of pancakes people!

Figured I should try and get some rides in after work while I can. Daylight savings is next weekend, so my fun ends starting Nov. 2.

Cellphone pics from this week of riding. As you can tell I am cutting it close with daylight both rides.
