The All Things Cycling Thread

I've all of a sudden started developing soreness behind my left knee. Can't figure out the source of it. Around the 30 mile mark I start to feel it. I had a very long layoff then jumped right back into it. Could it be too much too soon? Anyone dealt w that before?

That's probably the only place I haven't experienced soreness.

I've never had a proper bike fitting. OSU's school of sport medicine does them for $100. I'm going to give it a shot. I think it could be cleat float but will see what they say

Well I didn't see one of these so I thought I'd start it up.

I got into cycling last year and have been hooked ever since. I bought my first "real" bike this year, a Felt Q520 mountain bike and I love it. I love mountain biking at a few local spots but I want to take it out to the Smokies to give it a true test. It's also really fun and useful to ride it around campus because of all the grass/gravel/roads I have to ride on to get to class.

I also just recently bought a Giant OCR A1 road bike frame and I'm thinking about building my own road bike (I figure it will be a learning experience). However, I'm still considering selling it and buying a complete bike, but I haven't decided either way yet.

But who on here is a cycling nut like I am?

I'm not into cycling, but it's the big sport here. We have over 300 miles of maintained mountain biking trails in the area.... All on National Forest land.

Here's a description of the primary trails.

Oh and as I've learned, beer is a key part of mountain biking... We have a local English style pub that makes some good brew, if you want to connect with mountain bikers in this area Brewers Union Local 180 (AKA The Pub) is the place to go. Brewers Union Local 180

I'm having issues with nausea that appears almost like clockwork. It hits me right around 30 minutes into my ride. I haven't spewed, but feel like I could if I chose to. I've tried warming up longer, drinking less, bananas before riding, not eating before riding ......any ideas guys?

I wrote up a photo report on the century ride I did earlier in the summer.

2016 Cherohala Challenge

I like this picture. It makes me look fast, right?

I carry a mini-pump AND CO2. When having to change out a tube, I inflate it just enough with the mini-pump so that I'm certain the CO2 will fill. Th last situation you want is to be 40+ miles from anywhere having fracked up the discharge of your last CO2 cartridge and without an alternative inflater.

Got stuck on a gravel road about 30 miles from home in May because I wasn't carrying enough CO2 for my CX bike... Two flats in ine ride.

It's been absolutely beautiful lately. I was finally able to get out for a long ride Saturday and put in 104 miles solo. I've lost count of my miles for the year. Strava says 2500 logged on my GPS unit, but that doesn't include any commuting (22 miles per day) or some other rides in which I didn't use my GPS.

I will be riding my first 70 miler on Sunday next week- Horrible 100 (also has 70 and 35 mile rides) elevation is 1,377 ft. This is in Clermont Fl. Not sure if that is a lot of climbing or not. Most I have ever ridden is 65 miles on a flat bar Fuji. I ride 100 miles a week at least usually a little more. Have a Cannondale Cad10. Grew up in Tennessee riding hills, but been in Fl. 30+years. Is this very much elevation? We usually ride flat, Clermont Fl. is somewhat hilly.

No, not much at all. On my recent 100 miler, I had 3k+ elevation gain and that was a really flat ride.
