The All Things Cycling Thread

Tried my first ever crit race this week. I about died haha. Averaged 21 mph which is way out of my comfort zone, and was dropped by the main group within about 10 min. They had to of been averaging 25mph. I guess I need to start pushing myself more and doing less hills.

Pretty sure I didn't warm up enough either as I am unfamiliar with how to prepare. some people mentioned I should spend about 20-30 min warming up

Sounds like you did alright! Crit riders are animals.

Bicyclist get hit by a car in North Knox. Typical comments on WATE...I need a disqus account I think.

Don't do it. I get suckered in all of the time and it just boils my blood.

Chris Froome was intentionally struck today in France. I was on a group run Saturday night and someone swerved at us multiple times acting as though he was going to hit us. He made multiple passes. I might start carrying a gun.

Unreal. I saw a little of this when I was on road bikes, never had multiple passes. Usually just some idiot hucking a beer can or hollering.

Seriously might be time to weaponize road bikes. Stay safe! Oh, and on the Froome twitter, some dolt told him to "cycle properly". Can't believe he wasn't injured, that Pinarello is trashed!

I had a close encounter this morning with an SUV passing me too closely with tons of room for him to move over. I was already squeezed into the footing zone.

Last night I saw some trashy redneck douchebags driving their dumpster find of a truck down the street with one hanging out of the passenger window with a Keystone in hand, another girl in the bed with a Keystone, driver had a Keystone, and one more standing in the bed hanging onto the roof...with a Keystone. They were hollering some homophobic slurs at me as I was standing in a parking lot texting. Should put that truck out of its misery.

Oh man! What is it about sweaty men in tights that just enrages 'necks? Something about it triggers them hard.

Truck description is hilarious! I can see it clearly. Hilarious and sad at the same time.

Funny thing is that I was in normal clothes, not even Lycra. Just shirts and a t-shirt.

Yeah, not sure why that seems to be their go-to insult. Something Freudian going on there me thinks. Somebody pursuing a healthy activity that requires actual fitness and it triggers their homophobic rage...curious at the least.

How do you know they were Keystones? You must have laser vision. I've never been able to tell what someone was drinking with their hand draped around it, especially from a parking lot as someone drove by. Nothing like embellishing a story to fit the narrative.

Actually, you're right. They were Busch Light. Orange cans. Got them mixed up with Keystone's special orange cans from a few years back.

This can isn't hard to spot. Nice calling me out on the wrong beer.

Still trash ass rednecks, though.

In my experience they usually offer a sample of their fine beverage in passing. That was a long time ago though. Tempted to get a road bike for grinding out some miles. If so I am sure I will find out about current cyclist / redneck protocol soon enough.

I got hit with a full can a few months ago. I was on the riverfront bikepath heading to class and someone threw it at me from their car window.

Man that sucks. Some dolt is going to mess with the wrong cyclist one day and get shot.

Where would you hide the gun? Jk

I have no problem with cyclists. Except the ones who ignore traffic laws. The same way cyclists hate drivers who ignore them as well.

I don't know, having never thought about it. I don't even know how bad it is on the roads today as I ride dirt and very little street.

Apparently a lot of people have thought it about it though and some are doing it.

Long ago when I did ride road bikes I just expected most cars to not be paying attention. The problem are the psychos that go into a rage when inconvenienced by a cyclist. Also there are plenty of cyclists who ride like idiots, I can see getting pissed off but not using a car as a weapon or hucking a 40oz at them.

That is insanity. She seems fairly pleased with herself in the mugshot.

Apparently she's bipolar. She hit a retired officer. Hopefully the police and courts in the area start taking incidents involving aggressive actions against bicycles seriously. This was about 50 miles from city.

It's the same a-holes that deem it necessary to yell at a guy on the tee box or put a smokestack on their pickup trucks. They alone are the reason I won't ride roads.

We don't have much of those rolling coal here, but man does it suck when one does it to me. Makes me want to slit some tires.

I'm getting ready to join the e-bike generation. I bought a mid-drive kit and a 48 volt battery from Luna cycles. https://lunacycle.com/bafang-bbshd-1000w-mid-drive-kit/

I'm looking forward to getting on a bicycle again and not having to dread the hills of East Tennessee. I might not get the exercise of a normal bike, but I damn sure will get the fun and then some. My knees will also be happy.

Have fun :D Those hills go both ways though! Nice ride today, about 1/3 singletrack and 2/3 street. I raised my seat a little to "almost" XC bike level today and I feel it. Seat will be going back where it belongs, slammed!

Oh, here is a review of Chromag Squarewave grips: NEVER RIDE THESE HELLISH TORTURE GRIPS. I do not normally ride with gloves but these freaking things just convinced me. Either that or I go back to ODI grips.

Come on Doc..... when I was younger I did enjoy honking the car horn at guys teeing off by the road when I would happen upon them..... something about seeing 3-4 guys react immediately with birds and angry body language made me laugh
