The American polity is cracked, and might collapse. Canada must prepare

Some diagnoses of America’s crisis that highlight “toxic polarization” imply the two sides are equally responsible for that crisis. They aren’t. While both wings of U.S. politics have fanned polarization’s flames, blame lies disproportionately on the political right.

Oh yeah, he's so spot on

When does the nazi comparison go away? It's in no way useful to any decent conversation

That's not a laughable idea. The fires have been stoked in that direction.

What’s the difference between a “ right wing fascist “ demanding we lose rights through Eos and a left wing progressive that demands we lose rights through government mandates by EOs ? That article was leaning so far left I had to tilt my phone to the right , just to read it . Lol

Please tell me more. The main authoritarianism I see is from the left. I’ve never seen a group so devoted to the concept. If a left wing Governor were to say “getting vaccinated and wearing a mask, should be up to you”, theyd be crucified.

It’s so bad they threaten to leave the republic if they’re allowed to make their own abortion laws (overturning of Roe v Wade)

He couldn’t be more wrong. He’s a left wing hack.

I agree that we are running towards the cliff of collapse but the reason isn’t “right wing” zealots And it wouldn’t be a right wing dictator that would take over. That is nothing but a left wing dog whistle.

It’s simply because more than half the country is tired of centralized power in DC and whenever the power changes the party in power tries to ram their one size fits all solutions down the countries throat. The answer to keeping us together as a sovereign democratic republic is not increasing the power of the federal government but reducing it and transferring power back to the states.

Id say 90% of the secession talk on VN is from right-wingers.

10+ years of culture wars where anybody not in lock step with the progressive left is labeled a nazi and thus ripe for cancelling or even righteous physical assault (punch a nazi!). Even a diminutive gay Asian man can be labeled a punchable Nazi if he writes articles denouncing militant progressives (Antifa). Yet it will be a "far right" dictator that brings the US down?

Think that may have something to do with the top down style of government the democrats prefer? As long as the left wing idea model of government involves them dictating unpopular laws to the states, you’re going to have a lot of resentment on the right. It’s only natural.

Still, through targeted harassment and dismissal, he’ll be able to thin the ranks of his movement’s opponents within the state, the bureaucrats, officials and technocrats who oversee the non-partisan functioning of core institutions and abide by the rule of law.

Who exactly are these magical people?

That's it right there. The federal government needs to be drastically reduced in size. The current form of federal government is bad for the people and bad for our wallets. It can't be sustained long term.

Not to mention the policy proposals many on the left support.

Can’t work, cross state lines, or fly on a plane without proof of vaccination.

A ban on private health insurance, making it illegal for your employer to offer a non-government approved plan.

Monitoring any bank transactions over $600.

And the recent censorship ideas have gotten absolutely insane. Furthermore, these are a just a few of the policies that are floating about.

Yet we are called fascist because we support Voter ID laws???

It’s comical.

I want a lefty to logically explain that one to me.

They want control of our healthcare system while openly supporting excluding the unvaccinated from our healthcare system.

On top of that the insane power grab they were discussing at the beginning of this administration involving bringing in 2 left wing states, packing the courts, and ending the filibuster.

Given all those things, you have to be insane to not understand why so many on the right would consider leaving.

Let’s add on top of that their control of monoclonal antibodies that has made them insanely hard to get. In some places a medical review board now has to approve them
