You're right. Juninho, Del Piero, Ronaldinho, Gerrard, Lampard...its a dying breed.

Lest we forget Beckham? My favorite player to ever wear a MU kit, and favorite player ever for that matter (homer disclaimer). Talk about clutch kicks for club and country when they truly mattered. Absolutely top notch and indisputably one of the best FK specialists ever. Check out this video before anyone wants to argue.

With Messi's comments re: Pep's departure, let the speculation begin on summer transfers. Clearly, I don't see messi moving if at all for several years for what barca did for him and his family from the start and the success he has had at the club, not to mention his 10 gazillion dollar buyout clause... But I will still be interested to see what names are thrown in the hat, only teams that have about 500 million just for the buyout not to mention transfer fee and salary, so that's what, city, anzhi, real (which would obviously never happen)... Still curious to see the rumors fly. Or maybe some oil sheik in Bahrain or Dubai will want to buy him as a personal trainer for their children... Let the rumors fly.

Btw, I hate to see Pep leave, I always saw him as a real class act, night and day compared to someone like mourinho. So a tip of the hat to you and true barca fans everywhere on that note.

What did messi say that makes you say that?

His reasons for not attending the press conference... Too emotional, Pep being such a great coach, etc.

Could lead some to believe now that pep is gone messi may not have the same connection with the club that he had when he was winning trophies for pep.

Like I said before, and stated my reasons why, I don't see him going anywhere but will not be surprised if transfer rumors emerge based off pep's departure.

It was by no means a definitive list.

Yeah, it was just a cross section but I should have mentioned Beckham. He and Roberto Carlos were two of the greatest benders of the ball that I'd ever seen.

I give Roberto the nod. The things he could make a soccer ball do were just not natural.

RSL usually plays an EPL team, or something, but not this year.

Playing TFC at home tonight, so they might be able to sleep through this one.

Any good friendly matches this season?

I'm about to start hunting for tickets to valencia and aston villa

UPDATE: I asked my bro-in-law why RSL didn't have a foreign friendly this year. He swore me to secrecy. His Dad holds like a top 10 position in the US Soccer Federation, so you could say I have it on good authority.

All I can say is somebody big is visiting RSL this summer. Super pumped.

Open Saturday dates are 5/19, 6/2, 6/9. I'm guessing it'll be one of those. I'm in NYC on 6/2. FML, it'll be that one.

looks like Thierry Henry just blew out his right hamstring

just a few minutes earlier he scored his 8th goal in 7 games, helluva season so far

Nice :)

What a miserable game at Montreal. Right back to the pattern of fitness going out the window for the last fifteen minutes, and on top of that, Perkins went to the ground in the 74th minute IIRC for a save and caught a cleat to the face that yielded a yellow card. Only the second time in his MLS career that he's been subbed out. Hopefully he can return.

Outside of Chabala, the talent for this side is clearly all on the attack. Something needs to be done with Perlaza so he can fit better. He's one of the fastest guys in MLS, but he ends up outpacing the rest of the team. He needs to slow down so Boyd can get more looks inside the box. We have the best striker in MLS that doesn't play for Galaxy or Red Bull, he needs to be better utilized.

The problem was he spent the rest of his career trying to recreate a couple amazing shots he made.

He may be a better player than Beckham due to his ridiculous speed and the fact that he was able to help a lot offensively despite being a defender. That said, I'll take Beckham for actual free kick ability.

Nashville would be one of the likelier places (and it has been involved in expansion bids). They only have to compete with football and hockey there. Soccer is pretty popular in North Carolina. I'd think they'd be the first to get a team.

And Arena Football if the rumors are true :)

Went to the RSL game last night. Johnny Steele is so clutch. 93rd minute game winner. I've never seen a team look so dejected at a regular season loss. They had 5 guys just laying there on the pitch in despair after the goal. TFC is straight tanking.
