The Association Football Thread

And now the countdown to the World Cup begins. Less than 3 weeks to go now. Aside from the US obviously, who will everyone be cheering for? I'll be pulling for either England or Holland to win the whole thing.

I'm cheering for Spain and Argentina. Spain has alot of Barca players so it will be fun to watch them. And I hope Messi takes over the tournament for Argentina.

US and Czech in about 30 minutes. From the looks of the lineup ESPN just showed, US is going with mainly the B-team tonight. Hopefully we'll get to see the starters in action in at least one of the other games before England and the first game of the World Cup.

It seems the reason so many non-starters are playing tonight is that the final cut for the WC squad comes tommorrow and the final roster needs to be ironed out.

Gee... Spain... and Argentina... To hell with Cinderella, huh?

USA is my Cinderella. Wouldn't mind seeing Ivory Coast do some damage. It's hard not to cheer for Spain when 1/3 of the team is part of my club team. Then, Messi is my favorite player and hoping this turns out to be his World Cup and he finally shines on the international level.

USA and Germany.

Who's your favorite team? Just wondering.

I want to see Germany do well, but I'd rather avoid the US playing them. Those would be the two teams I'm pulling for, with the US obviously being first.

I want Argentina and Messi to do well. In 2014. Until then, I'll gladly root for the failure of that anti-American cocaine addict they have coaching them. Great player, but I think it was an awful hire.

Is it just me or is the play all together sloppy, on both sides. Granted SOME of the big names are sitting this one out. But i would think at the level of play this is that passes, trapping, and first touches all together would be a little more precise.

Pretty ugly game to watch. there is a huge dropoff between the first and second squads. Buddle has no business being out there. Don't get me started on Bornstein.

Agree. If I hadn't watched highlights of the England friendly I would be extremely worried about being embarrassed instead of being beaten by them.

Yeah im wondering if its just the changes in the lineups i.e. spots in the formations that is making things look so much below par with these teams.

ok im going to see if i can find some old strongbad online instead of getting irritated talking about how horrible we are playing.
