Would have been cool if the two German sides and two Spanish sides had drawn each other in the semis. Oh well. I definitely like RM over BVB, but am not sure about the other. Barca kind of struggled in the last round and Bayern is going to be a whole different order of challenge than what PSG was. Any word on Messi's status VB?

Don't discount Dortmund with Madrid. They played toe to toe with them in group stage. It will be very close and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go through.

It was reported that he felt a slight discomfort against PSG Wednesday. But he did not do further damage. He was clearly not fit AT ALL. He looked gimpy before the goal and basically stood around the rest of the game after we scored. The guy is just a boss.

He won't play the next two games. He will probably be fit but won't have played in a game for two weeks. Should be interesting.

People are forgetting that PSG was a matchup nightmare for Barcelona. Good central defense and stupid quick on the counter. Bayern are much better than PSG but they play a more suitable style for Barcelona. I think if Bayern come into the game trying to play their normal style, I think they we will win. But honestly, I expect them to rely heavily on their front four attackers and force their holding mids to be very disciplined positional wise, breaking up any play through the middle.

And Mandzukic being out is huge. Offensively, it's a obvious setback, but defensively as well. He presses so well and that normally gives our back five problems. Busquets basically starts every attack and if he is pressed well we struggle. Madrid is very good at it and he normally is average against them. Another reason why we struggled against PSG. Lavezzi pressed Busquets so well. It was probably the worst game I have seen him play in several months.

It certainly is huge. Muller will have to fill that role as Gomez is not great at pressing.

We might lose. We aren't getting crushed. No one is going to crush us except for maybe Real Madrid.

I am starting to feel a little better as the days pass. I felt uneasy about it Friday morning, but have convinced myself that we will advance. But that is probably blind homerism

You have every reason to feel confident. Barca is still the top club in Europe until dethroned. I know that the champions are always Barca or have to go through Barca to get there. I'm excited about the ties with Barca because it's an opportunity to prove it against the best and I hope Bayern is the inheritor to Barca's legacy. Either way it should be very fun and hopefully epic in scale. This is the UEFA ranked 1 vs 2 and I hope it lives up to it.

It will be awesome to see a team open up and honestly try to attack Barcelona with an actual buildup and not just counter. I think it will open up a ton of opportunities for both sides. Tactically, I could write a damn essay on what both teams might do. It should be fascinating to watch. I think we might have just won another trophy with the big ears if we can make it to the final

I'm pumped about both ties. Obviously, the Barca/Bayern tie is more intriguing than the Dortmund/RM tie. I'm excited to see how Bayern stack up against Barcelona.

Wenger needs to quit his whining. You dropped points to everton at home, quit trying to make excuses.

Just curious: is there where international games are discussed (that don't involve the U.S)?

International friendlies and the like

Here is fine

I imagine there will be a World Cup thread though. Especially since the games will likely be broadcast at prime time in the us in 2014

Not that they're my team but it would be nice to see them competing again. I think Wenger's time may be past.

Five days.

Jupp err yup! Had to dig up that bad memory, eh? :)

I will say we are much improved since then. Yes, our core is the same but losing the BL to Dortmund two years in a row lit a fire under our board's collective asses to go out and address our weaknesses. Plus I'll take Heynckes over Louis van Gaal any day.
