I'm from cookeville so it's not like I have a hometown team to root for. I picked United based on their history, they have Sir Alex, and they are most likely going to be in Champions league every yr. They do not have a owner who buys every good player they have eg city and Chelsea . Sir Alex finds young talent for pennies on the dollar and they usually end up producing quite well ( latest example is Chicharito). If you are having a hard time picking a team Bill Simmons wrote a great article about choosing an English team side a couple yrs back. I believe he chose Spurs

First question. If you are going to be a Newcastle fan, have you accepted Alan Shearer as your lord and savior?

I picked Arsenal because of their football. There aren't many teams, other than Barcelona, that play the way that they do. It is entertaining to watch, and something about them drew me in. Everybody has their different interests. As long as you get drawn in and develop a strong feeling for the club that is all that matters. Personally, I wouldn't pick a team you expect to win every year because it loses its luster.

For instance, if Barcelona doesn't win the CL it will be a surprise, but if Arsenal did it would be the greatest day in their clubs history. Adds a hint more of excitement and it is still possible. Newcastle seems to be doing the right things so I'd say go with them if you like them, and if they manage to get rid of their owner things will only go forward.

cant disagree with any of that, Tyler... have you guys seen the new usmnt jerseys? would link a pic but dont know how from my cell. im on the fence about them. kinda like them. kinda dont. if we play well in them in the qualifiers, they might just grow on me. :)

Cookeville is allsome.

Andy Williams announced his retirement yesterday. He was a fan favorite here in Salt Lake. He will be missed. Dude wasn't incredibly athletic, but his skills were off the charts. It's like he had glue on his shoes, you couldn't take the ball away from him. I'll never forget seeing this free kick against Columbus in person:

heard on a podcast that portland me be getting a 19 yr old columbian kid as a dp. would be nice for the league if he is a baller.

The guy was leaning towards NCU. He's not one for front runners.

Anyway, sucks to be Manchester right now.

United are having serious issues thus far this season. Getting donkey stomped by City at home and getting knocked out of Champions League sucks.

any you guys willing to share what mated you to the teams you follow? i like chivas because my mexican friend is a big fan. i dont know any english fellas.

I started watching in 2000 when I got one of those illegal satellite cards that gave you every channel. I watched a few Arsenal matches and was hooked.

Those teams were loaded and it was kind of hard not to like them. They were the most exciting team to watch. Everyone else was just boring compared to them.

With the Manchester teams out, has the UCL become a three-teamed race between Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern? Can any other squad knock these teams out?

Bayern's September form, I would have put them up there. Their form as of late, not so much. I'm hoping it's just a slump, partially from losing Schweinsteiger, and they'll be full guns blazing when he comes back and Robben is playing more of a role.

I understand the reasoning, but I'm disappointed that we played our reserves against Chitty. I would have loved for that to be a statement game.

It would be an interesting matchup between Bayern and Barcelona. Y'all have really direct attackers who I think would give us problems on the break. then again, Barcelona dismantled Bayern a couple years ago
