The Atlanta Braves (thread 1)

Cubs just went ahead 1-0 in the top of the 9th. Man I'm glad I don't have to cheer for the Cubs very often.

I basically detest the Cubs and I've always sort of vaguely had a soft spot for the Padres ever since the halcyon days of Dick Williams, skinny Tony Gwynn, Goose Gossage, Kurt Bevacqua (sp?), Kevin McReynolds, Garry Templeton, et al. Yet I had no problem at all whooping it up for the Cubs' win tonight, taco uniforms and all. This probably means I'm the sort of person who would, in the case of stray gunfire, pick up his infant daughter and use her as a human shield without really thinking about it.

Cubs win! Cubs win! CUBS WIN!!!!

Sure would be nice to get the win tomorrow night and have the Giants beat the Pads so that the Braves can actually rest some guys and set up the rotation for the playoffs like everyone else is doing.

the way the giants are playing atm and with philly resting most of their starters, that might be the case. Im hopeful atleast

For selfish reasons, I want the Padres to sweep, the Braves sweep, and the Reds to sweep. That way the Braves will play in Cincy and I can go to the games.

That wouldn't bother me at all. No shot at the Reds, but I'd much rather run up against their starting pitching in a short series than the Giants.

Why the hell was Infante two yards away from the bag??

For the same reason McClouth couldn't get the line drive. Sometimes it amazes me that this team could make the playoffs. Is Dunn really our guy in that spot? Moylan has become a sure run for the other team at least half of the time... This is frustrating.

The lights at Turner are tricky sometimes; I can rationalize that a hell of a lot more easily than I can Infante not being on the bag to take the throw. That was inexplicable.

One game out of six down. (Presumably.) Vamos los Gigantes!!

Entire defense. Team gets to fewer balls than any can remember.

Stiffs in CF and LF. Corpses at 1B. 2B playing 3B. Utility IF playing 2B. Old guy who was always a better bat than glove -- for a SS -- playing short. Average-fielding C at best.

Heyward's pretty good in RF, but the Braves are compromising at every other position on the field. They're awful.

Says something about who the Phils want to play when ole' Charlie decides to not rest any starters.

I wouldn't rest any starters on Friday night either, regardless of what it means about whom I might face. The last thing I'd want to do as a frontrunner is let my team coast into a five-game series with most of my team not having played meaningful games in over a week to go up against a team that's been battling tooth and nail for a month to get in. I'd set my pitching up for the playoffs but play it mostly straight up with my lineup on Friday and Saturday, and then give everybody the day off on Sunday. The Braves are desperate and at least somewhat of a hated rival; playing largely straight up against them for most of the weekend is a good way to keep your team fresh for the postseason.
