Trainers were with him talking to him the entire time that he was on the field vommitting and that play off. There was plenty of time to pick up on if a concussion was even a possibility

How do you evaluate someone's mental faculties while he's hunched over heaving his guts out? What he got was in no way a decent evaluation. They needed to get him right back out there and they did.

We certainly don't have all the facts, but that didn't look like oh I'm winded lemme puke right quick or I just got the **** knocked outta me lemme puke right quick..

To my untrained eye, it looked much closer to idk WTF is going on or why I am uncontrollably vomiting

jmo

For him to be vommitting that quickly after a concussion would be nearly unheard of. The one study published in JAMA trying to correlate time of vommitting after blow that caused concussion would indicate that if it was because of concussion it would be class iiia which would easily be noticeable to anybody

It's OK. The walk-on punter must have given Matthews the all clear. You know that he's studying to be a torpedo biologist, right?

That means absolutely nothing in humid conditions after extreme physical exertion.

Maybe the Vandy trainers just assumed that his puking was related to his earlier dehydration, and they completely missed that his head bounced on the ground. In which case it's incompetence rather than gross negligence. Unacceptable either way.

If he had not been vommitting would you have been calling for him to come out and be tested for a concussion? Since all current literature on the subject indicate that in this case the 2 are most likely unrelated then your answer should be the same with or without the vommitting. So unless he was complaining about his head or obviously disoriented there was no reason to pursue things further.

Yeah. I saw a wobbly, woozy player who already asked to come out and collapsed to the ground.

I didn't see the wobbly and woozy from that video and the others could have easily been related to the vommitting rather than a head injury.

Like I said, I hate James Franklin and am also all about drawing attention to the concussion issue since that is how a significant part of my research is funded but I just can't bring myself to jump on the trainers without knowing all the facts.

Went back and watched the sequence again. My guess is that the Vandy staff completely missed the fact that his head bounced on the ground and they never even thought about a concussion evaluation.

As always, this sport is doomed.
