Should I try to book a hotel in Atlanta and have short Marta ride to the game, or book a hotel outside of town and have a longer ride to and fro? Was thinking Marriott...

If you can get a hotel close enough to MARTA that you don't have to deal with a car at all, then that's definitely the way to go.

There's a Holiday Inn at the corner of Hank Aaron and I-20 that I've stayed at that's fine. It's walking distance from the stadium.

Decent hike to Ga St no? I know the area but not the exact location of the station I guess

I know the area better than I want to. I went to school at Ga State. The station is below the twin towers across the interstate from the Holiday Inn. You just walk past the hotel, across the interstate and it's down there on the right in about 1/4 mile. It's probably a little under a mile from the stadium. Not a terrible walk, but a little farther than you really want to walk to get on a train.

Very useful info. The whole Marta shuttle to/from and wait FOREVER has turned me off from Marta for big games (chipper weekends, playoffs etc). Works fine for others. Using the GA St station makes a ton more sense. Thank you

GA probably knows some getting-in-and-out of the stadium area juju that I don't, because everything in Georgia south of Turner Field other than the airport is a giant black hole to me. I know how to get to Savannah. I know how to get to Florida. I know where the Dairy Queen halfway across I-16 is. That's it.

The MARTA shuttle to 5 Points so you can wait in a crowd is complete BS. If you're not going to take a car downtown, definitely go park out at either Indian Creek or Kennsington and ride into Ga State.

This whole conversation confuses me, wouldn't any reasonable adult male on govt. ordered vacation and staying in a hotel in the city be walking from the stadium to a fine drinking establishment directly after the game anyways?

I've got great news. They've added a Zaxby's to the Metter exit.

If there's one thing I'm good at, it's driving backroads in GA. I always say that if this insurance gig dries up, I should become a travel consultant for crappy towns in Georgia.

Walking to a drinking establishment after leaving Turner Field involves Kevlar and malt liquor.

Absent the bar in the holiday inn, this is both true and hilarious

I guess there's that Bullpen Sportsbar place between the stadium and I75, but I've never given a second thought to wandering over there before or after a game.

You guys rule. I am heading to their website now to see if I can get in at that Holiday Inn. I'd much rather walk than get on that freaking Marta...
