The Atlanta Braves Thread

Correct, and while I will defend that I think the top half of the SEC is tough. I don't think Mizzou or OM should get in at 10-2.
Lastly and most controversial if we go 10-2 but go 1-2 against UGA, Bama and OU. I don't think we deserve the playoffs.
I think that's an extremely weak resume.

Sure, but it doesn't matter at this point. 12 teams are getting in, with one G5 team. If Tennessee goes 10-2 in the SEC, they're getting in even if you think the resume is weak. Somebody has to fill that spot.

The one argument I do like with 12 teams is that anything outside the top 4 had basically become meaningless. We had people not impressed we made the Orange Bowl in 2022 because ESPN/media has brainwashed us into thinking the playoff games only mattered. At least with 12 teams big programs (Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State notwithstanding) will be like "Hey, we made the playoffs at 10-2! That's a good year!".

The "anything outside the top 4 is meaningless" dynamic that existed was always interesting to me because there was never a "anything outside the top 2 is meaningless" when they created the BCSNCG. There also was never an "anything outside the BCS bowls is meaningless" when the BCS was created.

There is something culturally that has changed over the last several years that has impacted how the non-playoff bowl games are perceived.

It's all relative. That's a weak resume...compared to who?

It's hard to make that statement in a vacuum. What are the resumes of the other bubble teams going to look like?
I guess you could say it's opinion based but going into the season, I only see 3 potential playoff teams on our schedule. OU, Bama, UGA.
In my opinion we only have a chance at 3 good wins, but several bad losses.

Which is unfortunate but the nature of the beast. It's like my opinion on the natty game last year. Someone had to win the title, even if I didn't think either team was deserving.

"Only?" Three is plenty of chances. It's more chances than the Big Ten teams that you mentioned have. They don't grow on trees, especially in CFB.

As @zjcvols said earlier the number of excellent teams in any given year is really small; the number of good teams is larger but it isn't like everybody plays 7 or 8 quality teams in a 12 game season.

Maybe it’s because they’re so used to bad football, but the VQ guys can’t even hide their excitement anymore. They’re all saying double digit wins
Don't know nearly as many people up there as I used to, but everyone I talk to says the same thing - There is a lot of confidence in the building and at the center of it is our quarterback.

This might sound weird because it is a different sport, but I wonder if the Basevols winning it all has had kind of a cherry-on-top effect with that. There'd be confidence in football obviously even if that didn't happen, but BVS is a real thing and seeing a team in a notable sport steamroll people, not choke, and win everything there was to win in a season I bet has a psychological effect. I think it has on me, honestly.

That's why I don't think expansion was nessacery. A lot of weak teams will be in the playoffs/champ games.

There are not many people on the planet who have the stuff to carry the weight of an NFL franchise. You don't know until you know, but we might have one.
That's the psychological effect. The coaches haven't really hidden it. They've spoken about guys returning to school because they want to play with Nico.
