The Atlanta Braves Thread

I still think YouTube TV is really good. The only thing that annoys me with YouTube TV is MLBN not on there (finally helps MLBN is available if you have MLB package) and the fact you have to pay extra for RedZone. But it's still an excellent product and since the price of internet isn't outrageous, you can get YouTube TV and solid internet for $140 after taxes. And it's month-to-month. Sometimes they give good rates. I cancelled after the NBA playoffs and they offered it $8/month off for the next 4 months when I went to restart it for football season

I had it dropped it and went back to cable. Not having the Regional Networks is a huge deal breaker for me.

Now, I don't have U which is a bit annoying but it's worth it to get the Braves and not have everything spoiled being a minute or more behind.

Very fair point. And if you need an RSN, cable is the absolute way to go. Since I live in Virginia and my dad/brother have T-Mobile they get the MLB package for free so that's very advantageous for me as a Braves fan (although it's annoying when they play Washington/Baltimore but a VPN fixes that issue). It wasn't so fun when I moved and dropped cable in August and had to maneuver around that.

Funny enough I was watching the Braves on my laptop and my girlfriend (a sports novice who really only watches college football half-heartedly) asked why it wasn't on the TV. I explained how blackouts work and RSN's and she looked me dead in the eye and said "So MLB wants to restrict your ability to watch their product in your hometown with a baseball team?" without any hint of sarcasm. I wish Manfred was there to answer that.

The RSNs pay the players salaries. You have to protect their broadcast rights.

Theres plenty to kill manfred for…that ain’t it. NFL is the same. You cannot watch in market teams on Sunday Ticket.

Sure, that makes sense. But with the NFL you can watch pretty easy with local TV. Everyone has some form of local TV where you can watch the games. It's actually harder to watch the "national games" on Monday and Thursday night because you have to either have ESPN or Amazon.

I guess my issue (and how much of this is to blame for Manfred, I don't know, maybe not that much) is that RSN's are vital yet the RSN's/cable companies are screwing the fans with all this bickering. It's heinous that Xfinity didn't show Braves games for 2 months. Or that MASN still hasn't been figured out between Baltimore and DC and we are going on 20 years of this. It's stuff like that kills the local product.

I don’t disagree but that doesn’t fall on manfred imo

At least it isn't as gross as what Charter did with Disney last year and dropping all ESPN channels 30 minutes before college football kicked off for the year. One of the more disgusting things I've seen from a cable provider.

I will say I do give Manfred some credit for providing a pretty affordable package for teams like San Diego and Arizona, who lost their RSN's over the winter. I think it's $100 total for locals to watch San Diego. That's less than a $1/game

Did anybody say those things?
Did Ronald win MVP?
Ohtani first to 40/40 in August and likely going to 50/50..
Ohtani consider the GOAT because pitching+offense
Very weird post
The only one of those I actually heard was that Ronald's SB total was only because of the rule changes.

Manfred has a 1975, maybe 1985 understanding of media.

My favorite tidbit of the MLB blackout rules is that Brewers fans in Iowa have absolutely no way of watching Brewers games. Not on cable or streaming.

From last to first. A true underdog story.

Garrett Baumann (who is 6’8, 250 and 20) has allowed 3 ER’s or less in his last 5 games and has been really good all season.

Sits 93-95, hopefully he can get more velo over the next few seasons.
