Since Marvel has rebooted the Spider-Man franchise The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters July 3rd!

I wonder if its to prep Spidey for Avengers 2 or 3?

Spider-man was licensed out to Sony, so the only way he's going to appear with the Avengers is if Marvel/Disney reacquired the rights. Same with X-Men.

Spider-Man, along with Wolverine, became an official Avenger with the launch of the "New Avengers" title about 6 years ago. He remains on that squad as well as joining the Fantastic Four last year after the Human Torch "died" (he got better).

As someone else pointed out though neither character will be in any Avenger movies until Marvel Studios/Disney requires the rights from Sony and Fox. This is unlikely to happen anytime soon as Fox plans an X-Men movie about every 2-3 years. Depending on the success of the Amazing Spider-Man I'm sure Sony will keep cranking those out as well.

Bingo, and Sony is likely going to keep holding on to the Spiderman rights until either 1) they milk it dry 2) people stop watching it because it gets so bad (and sony tries to sell the rights) or 3) Disney (or one of the studios it owns) gives them the rights to something they really want and a trade of rights is made between the two

...and the latter gets more difficult when the two studios/companies are competitors to such a degree





Of course, marvel studios getting it might mean it would have to be rebooted/restarted a third time

Very good movie. Much better than I actually thought it was going to be.

My guess for roster adds in the sequel are:
Vision - If I correctly got the hints in this movie.
Ant Man - If it is Vision then they have to have Pym to build his body.
Wasp - With Ant Man then you must have Wasp.

Of course, pure speculation from an old man that grew up reading The Avengers.

I had no idea this movie was this big. I went to a screening at 7 pm and people were lined up for the midnight release already.

The movie was funny. I don't usually get into this comic book junk, but the movie was pretty good.

I was talking future Avengers, I wasn't going to give that villain away. Same reason I wont go into details on how I come up with Vision.
I will also mention though to watch past all the credits for an extra chuckle.

My work associate took off early yesterday to do a marathon at the theater. $40, and you get to see Iron Man, Iron Man II, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and then Avengers at midnight.

This morning he was freaking out about how cool Avengers was.
