1. I don't know what happened. I don't know what they ate. I don't know who said what or who hit who or replaced certain players with robots, but this was a very important win. A potential disaster turned into a very nice win against a solid Xavier team.

2. This is the most apt way to put the Cuonzo Martin Era.

3. I loved what Tennessee did with Stokes and Maymon. They played some high/low with Stokes being able to get some easy post ups, but they did a nice job in the first half running side screens for drives. They cut really well today and it got McRae some nice paint points. It also opened up the lane. Really nice adjustment by Cuonzo and company.

4. #FreeArmaniMoore

5. The defense was much better. They did a much better job of guarding off ball and were physical. There was some more switching, even with Maymon, which seemed to screw with Xavier's offensive flow. They chased the three pointers off the line, and Stokes was a beast down low defensively. Matt Stainbrook can score, and he got some points, but they kept everything out of the paint today.

6. He didn't shoot well, but I really liked the assertiveness Robert Hubbs showed. Keep attacking young man, it will fall. He needs to be that guy to give UT a spark, and he did tonight on both ends. He also showed a willingness to rebound.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: Jarnell Stokes. Quite simply, this was his best effort as a Vol. He was almost unrecognizable. He was dominant inside and used a variety of post moves. He finished with his left hand. He was decisive in the post. He rebounded with great energy. His defensive effort was there. He played like a beast today.

8. Jeronne Maymon came alive today. He looked more energetic and had a little more bounce in his step than usual. His quickness was there, which is surprising. If he plays like that, good luck stopping UT.

9. Only issue? They took the air out of the ball a little too early for my liking. Thought that wasn't the best coaching decision. Run the offense all the way. But I won't be too greedy today.

10. Again, a potential disaster was avoided assuming UT can win tomorrow. The goal was two wins. That doesn't excuse the pitiful effort and performance from last night, but I will gladly take this win. Get two wins, especially if you play like you did today, and you should at least feel somewhat positive about your team. Beating a healthy Xavier by 15 after last night's performance is impressive. The coaching staff deserves a lot of credit tonight, just like they deserved a lot of blame last night.Coming out like Tennessee did today after last night's performance is a testament to keeping your guys focus, which has been a problem. I'm just glad I can smile after a Tennessee basketball game. Now it's time to get some leftovers!

Go Vols!!! :hi:

Good analysis. I was almost too worried to watch today's game after last night's debacle. Very pleased with the effort today.

Last night was pathetic point blank they could have laid down today and compounded the problem and been 0-2 in two days. They stepped up and fixed problems.

Stokes should be a 20 point player night in and night out especially shooting 70% at the line. The team goes as he goes.
McRae is McRae and finds ways to come away with at least 15 points

Maymon with 14 and 6 and being energized on the floor. Being a leader on the floor.

Thompson continues to be good on defense. He'll eventually be a lock down defender. He has a knack for picking the pocket on steals and jump starting the offense.

JRich's streak of games with no turnovers has ended but it was great while it lasted.

Great win when we needed. Hopefully they come out ready to play tomorrow. Go vols!

The difference between yesterday and today, in every aspect was ridiculous.

Yesterday: no spacing, poor substitutions, walk it up and run the shot clock, no energy or fire, poor defensive rotation and effort.

Today: great spacing, shortened and better rotation, push the pace get out in transition and attack early, lots of energy and fire, defense good switches rotation and effort.

Hopefully Zo sticks with today's game plan, we have the athletes to play that way, and they obviously enjoy it. Which is why the effort was there today. IMO

One question, why does Zo hate Armani?

Moore is a player, I don't see why he doesn't get minutes. I think the 4 guards offense is becoming, clearly, our best option to the coaches and I would wager that we see more Hubbs as time goes along.

This stat line pretty much sums it up

Vols Rebound With 64-49 Win Over Xavier - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

44% from the field
67 percent from the free throw line.
9 TO
41-29 rebound advantage.
13 TOTAL fouls.

Oh and Q only played 2 mins. Amarni played 1. Wasn't like Q got big minutes. AJ Davis is getting Amarni's minutes.

So Armani should have gotten 3 then. :) Seriously for some reason when Q is on the floor it seems like 1 minute is 5. Lol

If 2-1 was the goal losing last night was a blessing in disguise

Didn't mean to make it seem like the goal but say we win against UTEP and then Iowa. Nobody is expecting to beat Kansas. I guess I should have said. I don't like going 2-1 this way but I rather come out 5-2 and not 4-3 and this team still searching for answers.

This is how I feel.

Where was the big fella who ate us up last time? Seems like he sat a bit. Wondered if he played bad, foul trouble, etc got him. Also wondered if our aggressiveness early in the game and shot clock made it harder on him. That's part of the pace that has been debated. He was able to rest on d the first game as we stood around too much. Seems like this game wouldn't be a good game for a big and slow guy.

Lol exactly.

If Armani was just an inch taller he'd be getting more minutes I feel like. He's a tweener for the 4 spot. I think the reason Davis gets the minutes he does because he can stretch the floor and bring the ball up if need be and guard any positions on screens and so happens to be 6'8. Gives him an advantage over Armani. I agree Q shouldn't play. I wish Edwards could play defense. His offense is very good.

Held him to 10. He didn't play bad just contained. We completely stopped Christon snapped his 25 game double digit scoring streak.

He started off decent, he definitely seemed to fade. The pace IMO definitely contributed to that.

I agree 100%. AJ seems to be coming along pretty good too, Armani is just one of those tough nosed do whatever and don't ask questions guys that you just have to root for.

Yup I agree. I want Armani to get minutes.

Barton
Hubbs
Richardson
Stokes
Maymon
McRae
Thompson
AJ
Armani
Pops (if need be)

I think Armani could make the most out of the minutes he plays. 5-8 mins would be great for us.

You benching AJ? Lol I agree Moore doesn't need a ton of minutes to make an impact.
