The Best Coach Since Fulmer Left....

Good post. And good players make coaches look good.

If you look at our downward trend in supplying the NFL, it kind of mirrors the downward trend a former coach had here. Most of his loyal followers won't address this fact when it's put upon them, but it is some pretty credible evidence and support of my opinion

I stand corrected. UAB was in 2010 winDooley.

Ohio did give Kiffin's 2009 team a game, though.

I mean, it was never closer than 8 in the 4th quarter and they went 9-3, including 7-1 in the MAC, in the regular season.

Just remember Dooley would still be here if Sal was never hired.

That hire really did kill Dooley's tenure. If we had a mediocre defense that year as we averaged 36 pts per game we'd been around 9-3. That was the best 5 win team I've ever seen.

I believe the only starter in the NFL from that team is Eric Berry. Hardesty has started some games, but has mostly been hurt like he was while at UT.

I don't know how old you are but go back and research the NFL drafts from the mid 80s to the early 2000s. It's mind blowing how much more talented we used to be during that 20 year stretch. It's very clear that we likely underperformed throughout the 90s, given that we had the most talent in the SEC and top 5 in the country

From the late 80s until the mid 2000s, UT was top 3 virtually every year in the number of players on active NFL rosters. We are currently ranked #10. That's how far we've fallen talent wise and indicative of lackluster recruiting the last 7-8 years

The late 90s produced a National Title, 2 SEC titles, and a couple of other BCS bowl appearances, so I'm not sure that's underachieving.

The teams from 2000 - 2005 definitely underachieved relative to the amount of the players from those teams that went to the NFL. Just glance at the Wikipedia pages for those seasons - there were gobs of NFL talent on those teams (especially 2002) with not a considerable amount to show for it.

Tennessee in those days reminds of of Oklahoma today. In 2010, 3 of the first 4 picks in the NFL draft went to Oklahoma...they went 8-5.

who got more talent: kiffin or dooley? dooley left nothing for butch

All things considered, Dooley got way more talent. Dooley got Kiffin's EEs and had a couple other silent signing day surprises that Dooley told to go public early.

Going 9-2 in 1996 with the talent we had is like this team going 2-10. Going 9-3 with the 1999 team was a complete underachievement as well.

Funny you mentioned the 2002 debacle. That was the start of this whole downward trend of talent and performance

It really is funny seeing people post crap like this. It's like they don't even know how to look at a roster and they've definitely never played the game before. Good coaching helps, but you can't do much at all without good players. We just don't have good players right now. Face it.

...has been Kiffin. There,I said it! The Vols beat S.Carolina and Georgia, and almost beat 'Bama that year. TN seems to be getting worse with each new coach.
