The Big 10

Sad life I see. I don't even mind a little crap talk. I have never posted on another teams board. Did you get kicked of yours? Or they aren't smart enough to create one as good as ours? Or you have no life and visit a bunch of other conference websites? I mean it's kinda of curious behavior. Why would a big ten guy be posting on an sec team website. Even more so as often as you do. Kind of embarrassing for you to be honest.

I have explained before. You seem smart so you can look back. I am not embarrassed at all! I enjoy VN. Most people like differing opinions and viewpoints. Some don't. All good.

If you are around Knoxville for the Georgia game I will buy you a beer.

For as much bragging as I've had to listen to in the off season, these yahoos from the B1G don't seem to have much bite to back up their bark.

Penn State lost to Temple for the first time in 74 years!

Marshall beat a B1G team (Purdue) for the first time ever!

Michigan State struggled to beat the powerhouse Western Michigan.

Nebraska lost to mighty BYU.

Michigan lost to mighty Utah.

Wisconsin was beaten by 18 points by Alabama.

Yeah, Ohio State may be pretty good, but when the rest of the conference sucks and can't win an out of conference game it doesn't say much does it?

Didn't Northwestern beat Stanford?

(Also should Purdue really be included in this? Ranting on it because of their games is almost exactly the same as someone saying the SEC is bad/overrated because Vanderbilt lost to Western Kentucky.)

Good lord do you people ever get tired of using the "get off our messageboard" line of posting? It's the definition of childish and embarrassing to the rest of us that don't feel the need to sink to such pathetic levels.

Grow up.

This. I even wish we had more neutral fans providing an outside perspective on the state of our program. The Oregon fans that came in a couple of years ago were completely classy as others have been.

Having said that to say this, I draw the line if one of the 19 Vandy fans shows up talking trash.

Back in the Franklin era there used to be several Vandy fans disguised as UT fans on VN. They're not around much these days.

It is a sad conference.

OSU is obviously good, but it is disappointing that they really dont even have to exert any effort to make the cfb playoff.

I don't blame them. If I was a Vandy fan, I'd try to hide it as well.

You are correct. Conference how it stands today is a joke. That being said Michigan State is really good. That's all I got.

so I guess according to your way of thinking we would be just as well off in the sunbelt conference .. right ?

I guess all the money we (UT) get from the conference and the SEC network is nothing ..... right ?

some people can be so dumb I wonder how they remember to breathe.

If SEC schools received considerably more revenue than Big 10 schools from the conference, you may have a point. They don't.

On the other hand, those SEC national championships sure did benefit UT a lot. I loved watching UT's recruiting crater as elite prospects signed with our rivals and we were stuck with Dooley's Diamonds and Kiffin's class of transients.

So knowing your conference is pretty down this year, do you think an undefeated OSU should make the playoffs over say a one loss SEC or Big 12 team?

Just me but I kind of like arguing with trolls -- those ESPN boards used to be fun - all kinds of stuff posted and trolls galore and nobody ever got banned - except a OSU one named Flatussman

At this point I would say yes. It'll be hard to convince me they aren't one of the 4 best teams at the end of the year unless they completely crap the bed.

Thing is he automatically thinks any fan of any other team is a troll.

I'd take guys like bamawriter, 99gator, and LawerenceWright over him, no question.

Well 4 teams make the playoffs. So are you saying the 5 major conference champions are undefeated? Let's say they are. IMO there is NO WAY Ohio State gets left out. Zero chance. ACC or Big 12 champ would be left out.

Edit...I missed the OSU was unbeaten and the others had losses. Well again they are lock.

OSU plays a laughable schedule but they'll still easily get in

The only way a one loss Ohio State misses the playoffs is if they aren't B1G Champs. That's assuming there aren't 4 major unbeatens which odds are highly against.

I disagree. I think a team, any team actually, with a weak SoS that goes undefeated shouldn't automatically get the lock over a one loss team with a harder SoS. I said the same thing about Felon State U last year and I could be saying the same thing about OSU this year.

FSU is a good example since they had too many close calls last year and then got smoked in the first round. But since they were undefeated, they were in automatically.

Undefeated? Hell, a one loss OSU team makes the playoff due to starting the season at number 1. OSU is already in the playoff this year, you could bet your house on that.

Well I get it. My point is the committee won't keep
defending champ Ohio State out of the top 4 if they are undefeated. They proved last year they wouldn't give the unbeaten team the #1 ranking, but the Noles were never missing the playoffs.

Agreed as long as they win the conference. They lose to Michigan State in November and they will miss playoffs at 11-1.

Not sure that is a fact. I can see a 1 loss team that isnt the conference champion making it.

There is a historical basis for that. Although the Bama-LSU championship game was orchestrated and a really bad idea from the start.

There is zero historical basis for the playoff era. This isn't the media voting. The committee let it be known it places a premium on conference championships.

Could an 11-1 non B1G Champion OSU make the playoffs? Sure it's possible but highly improbable IMO.

OSU is good for business, if there is a log jam of 1 loss teams, they are getting in.
