The Big Tech March to Silence Free Speech

Yes. Which automatically makes me the enemy and out of touch with reality. I know the drill.

I was a middle school teacher for 14 years and served on the negotiations team for nine of those, with one cycle as the chief negotiator. We had a positive relationship with the board team for the most part.
So you're a union puke that wants to be a boss, but in reality you're nothing more than a teacher that can't work for a living. You're nothing more than a leach on society.

Why yes, yes I am. You must be in regular contact with my therapist to know me so well.

So unregulated capitalist behavior is the enemy now. Hrm...
This stupid retort is already worn out. They are essentially utilities at this point. They have effectively replaced the voice phone call.

If they can’t act like adults and behave responsibly then they will wind up under a much heavier thumb of the FCC and they have nobody to blame but themselves.

I agree with you on this. I believe those platforms have become large enough to potentially constitute an extension of the public square. What is the proper next step in regulating that, though?

I’d guess it’s moot at this point and will be decided by the next Congress in 2023 that will come down very hard on them. And they earned it.

Since your comrades in the democratic party are in cahoots with big tech and receive most of their money in the form of political donations and book deals, let's just ask Dorsey, Zuckerberg and Bezos what we should do? They are already calling the shots anyway.

I thought it was ironic how perfectly my understanding of your views fits that of the stereotypical liberal educator / college professor.

It seemed funny to me. No offense.

That's the wild thing about being a complex human being who doesn't fit into any specific category. I'm a born-again, Pro 2A, flag-waving, pro-military, small government guy who believes we should do a better job taking care of our planet, let people love who they want to love, and give workers a voice in the workplace. I'm too left for here, too right for other places. It's a tough row to hoe.

Many conservatives including the President have been cooked off Twitter. These big tech companies are tyrants. President Trump will have a hand in bringing in a new platform.

Right now, I wish I could censor the email that my 80-something mother in law's friends are sending her. In the past 24 hours, I've had to debunk:

  • Nancy Pelosi being arrested over whatever was on her laptop
  • The Clintons being murdered
  • Trump military junta
  • A 12-day, nationwide power outage that the military is somehow going to effect beginning Wednesday
These are old ladies, mostly widows, being trolled and they don't know the difference. They assume this stuff is true. I can't be the full time fact checker and it's a delicate situation trying to explain why this stuff is not believable without insulting her and her friends.

That’s why I said “my understanding of your views”. I realize I don’t know what you really believe - I get bashed on here consistently by people who assume they know what I believe.

I’ve been in manufacturing for 20+ years and in my view I’ve been lucky to have avoided unions. IMO the unions typically take it too far and make US companies less able to compete with foreign companies - ultimately leading to a lot of good US jobs being sent overseas.

I'm anxious to see where Trump ends up. Wherever it is I'm certain it will be out of being under big techs thumb. Google and Apple will try and block it though, it's what they do, censor free speech.

I know where you're coming from, on both counts.

There are way too many unions in this country that have forgotten why they exist, and they make it harder for the rest of us to operate. I loved my time working with the bargaining group as a middle school teacher - we had a great relationship with our Central Office counterparts and got a lot done for the students in the county. But we were an NEA affiliate, and I have some major issues with NEA sticking its neck outside of education issues and into things it doesn't need to be messing with. If it can't be directly linked to better student learning environments, then they need to stay out of it.

You can discuss, plan, and cheer on rioting, looting, violence, murder, tearing down statutes, etc on Facebook and twotter, without even a disclaimer, and somehow that’s good to go but a platform that’s 100% free speech is bad.

You're a moron, you're not for students, you're for yourself and I hope you never teach one of my grandkids. BTW tell me what 8x8=? We used to do multiplication tables, now kids do some weird math if they come up within +/- 3 or 4 its close enough. You are a worthless educator.

Trump isn’t and has never been a conservative. He just played one on TV.
