The Big Tech March to Silence Free Speech

Those here who denigrate, insult, and disparage most of a field for what they consider the mistakes of a small sample.

I'm actually someone who thinks it's overdone and crossed the Backfire Effect threshold long ago. But I'll deal with disagreements on a case by case basis and not broad brush a profession.
Sort of like you have done in the past with law enforcement or conservatives?

Facebook asks Republicans if they need 'support' for becoming 'extremists' and will send the same to anyone who has searched 'key words related to white supremacy'

  • Facebook is targeting people they think are 'extremists' and offering support
  • The 'support' they're offering is access to groups like Life After Hate which seeks to rehabilitate people with 'alt-right views'
Facebook is targeting conservative voices and asking them if they need 'support' after becoming 'extremist' in its latest overreach on free speech and censorship which users say is patronizing and offensive.

Several conservative voices like Newsmax TV host John Cardillo, House Delegate Nick Freitas and Alex Berenson shared screenshots of the alerts they received on Twitter.

One Canadian user who'd accessed a meme on the page 'Boobs Guns Freedom Beer and Trump 2' got the alert and so did RT journalist Rachel Blevin.

Journalist Kira Davis also said she had a friend who'd received the alert.

It asked: 'Are you concerned that someone you know is becoming an extremist? We care about preventing extremism. Others in your situation have received confidential support.'

Another targeted people who Facebook deemed had been 'exposed' to 'violent extremism' and asked them if they needed 'support'.

I'm going to agree with you on this. Facebook has become even more farcical over time.

Although I do believe the list of notable people receiving the alert do fall on the extreme right, telling them they need help for their views does not fall to a corporation regardless of whether or not their content is being reviewed by humans or AI.

If it weren't the primary way I keep up with friends and family, I'd be on my way out.

Yes. No one knows better what is going on in the trenches than those in the trenches.

Sorry for the zombie post resurrection... but union leadership in general doesn't know **** about working in the trenches. The vast majority of them are bureaucrats earning another pension and a better salary than they would 'in the trenches'.

'Nobody should trust Wikipedia,' its co-founder warns: Larry Sanger says site has been Taken Over by Left-Wing 'volunteers' who write off sources that don't fit their agenda as fake news

Wikipedia can no longer be trusted as a source of unbiased information since the online encyclopedia's left-leaning volunteers cut out any news that doesn't fit their agenda, according to the site’s co-founder.

Larry Sanger, 52, co-founded Wikipedia in 2001 alongside Jimmy Wales, said the crowdsourcing project has betrayed its original mission by reflecting the views of the ‘establishment.’

He said he agreed with the assessment that ‘teams of Democratic-leaning volunteers’ remove content that isn’t to their liking, including information about scandals linked to President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

Wikipedia has always been a unreliable source that could be updated by most anyone, but you have to believe it won't even be worth reading for factual information even when it comes to defining certain words. The last update check will become your best friend.

Director Oliver Stone Slams the Cancel Culture ‘Witch Hunt’ and Twitter for Banning Trump: ‘It’s Shocking!’

Former president Donald Trump has an unlikely ally in his fight against social media censorship — Hollywood director Oliver Stone.

The two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker has lashed out at Twitter over its decision to ban Donald Trump, calling the move “shocking” while also criticizing the country’s growing trend toward censorship, which is being carried out by social media companies.

Oliver Stone was responding to a question about cancel culture during an interview with Britain’s The Independent at the 74th annual Cannes Film Festival.

“Of course I despise it,” the Platoon filmmaker said. “I am sure I’ve been cancelled by some people for all the comments I’ve made…. it’s like a witch hunt. It’s terrible. American censorship in general, because it is a declining, defensive, empire, it [America] has become very sensitive to any criticism.”

He added: “What is going on in the world with YouTube and social media. Twitter is the worst. They’ve banned the ex-President of the United States. It’s shocking!”

Most universities have dedicated plagiarism scanning software for submitting assignments online. Guess where most flagged students are copying from?

Give me ten minutes and I'll make you the President of Lichtenstein. At least according to Wikipedia.

Book: Creepy Facebook Engineer Used Data from Platform to Stalk Woman After Fight

GettyImages-1182969866-640x480.jpg

According to an upcoming exposé of Facebook, a company engineer abused his employee access to user data to track down a woman who had left him after they fought while traveling together. This is just one of the troubling abuses of privacy documented in the book.

Business Insider reports that according to an upcoming book by Sheera Frenkel and Cecilia Kang titled: An Ugly Truth: Inside Facebook’s Battle for Domination, a Facebook engineer abused his access to Facebook user data to track down a woman who had left him after they fought while traveling together.

The engineer, who is not named, allegedly accessed the data to “confront” the woman with whom he had been vacationing in Europe after she left their hotel room. The engineer was able to use Facebook user data to determine her location at a different hotel.

Another Facebook engineer reportedly used his employee access to dig up information on a woman he had dated after she stopped responding to his messages. Using Facebook’s tools, the engineer was able to gain access to “years of private conversations with friends over Facebook messenger, events attended, photographs uploaded (including those she had deleted), and posts she had commented or clicked on.” As the woman also had Facebook installed on her phone, he was able to track her location in real-time.

The book states that Facebook employees were granted user data access in order to “cut away the red tape that slowed down engineers.” The book adds: “There was nothing but the goodwill of the employees themselves to stop them from abusing their access to users’ private information.”

The book states that most of the engineers who took advantage of the access they had to user data were “men who looked up the Facebook profiles of women they were interested in.”

None of the universities I have attended or worked for allow it either. I've never had the problem with my majors, but the non majors taking Music Appreciation had no qualms about copypasta. And they know it's going through the Citation Checker for every submission.

What music genres you listen to Ash?

What music genres you listen to Ash?

Yes. :)

My daughter and I were rocking out to Queen in the van on the way to Taekwondo tonight. Also some Electric Light Symphony. I prefer original country through the early 1990s, 60s rock, and new works for wind band. And They Might be Giants. Schubert song cycles.

I will listen to anything for the sake of studying/understanding it, but newer pop music just seems so formulaic. The artists who really break barriers tend not to stick around too long.

It never could be "trusted" as 100 pct correct. Info comes from anyone.

Watched part of Bohemian Rhapsody again on TV just a couple of days ago. My 81 YO Mom loves it and was eat up with them when it came out. Even purchased it. Love u Mom!

I was always heavy or metal rock, but as I get older anything 70's pop sounds good, even jazz and old country.

My brother is a sociology professor and he told me he sees students trying to use Wiki as a major source every semester. He conducted a poll 2 years ago. He asked his students if they thought wiki is a good source for quality information. Almost 98% said yes.
