Former UK player Mark Krebs has written a book about his days at Kentucky and under Billy Gillispie, and details some of it in this television interview. It only touches the tip of the iceberg, but sheds some light on some the crazy things that happened during his tenure, such as:

-- Billy Gillispie’s decision to play Derrick Jasper while he was still injured from microfracture surgery.
— Making Josh Harrelson sit in a bathroom stall during halftime
— The night Billy Clyde kicked Jodie Meeks off the team at halftime of a game
— How Billy Clyde did not allow UK to warmup before the game versus Gardner-Webb
— The way Clyde treated Michael Porter
— Whether he would let his kid play for Billy Gillispie

Mark who? Someone who didn't get his 5 minutes of fame and is now trying to get his name mentioned. Any player who doesn't want to put in the work deserves to lose.

Billy is still aces in my book, regardless of what this benchwarmer claims.

why would anyone care to read this booK?

Probably for the same reason anyone cares to read posts on this board, because they might find it interesting. If its not for you, by all means go back to posting drivel about Cal and the Pac-10.

I still like Gillispie as well, I just think it was a situation that represented the "perfect storm". A hard nosed coach who didn't want media interference trying to mold his group as he saw fit, and it blowing up in his face because of the enormity of the UK job. Kicking Meeks off the team, locking a player in a bathroom stall, these are things that probably wouldn't have happened anywhere else, had the stress of the job not gotten the best of him.

While I have learned to like Turgeon, Ive yet to have a beer with him. I cant tell you how many times I ran into Billy out on the town and shared a good laugh and a cold one with him. He brought aTm basketball to life and I'll always thank him for it. I wish him the best.

What's the point? I thought it was how mentally weak the players were and how they couldn't step up to his challenges.

That is probably a fact for a few players on the team, no doubt. But, as I'm sure you know, it obviously runs a lot deeper than that, whether you admit it or not.

I agree Billy and UK probably wasn't a good fit and he may have let the pressures get to him some. However, it's so stupid that no name players come out years later throwing people under the bus. He didn't competely criticize Billy, but who the heck is Mark Krebs to give any input on Kentucky basketball by writing a book?

Who is Mark Krebs?

This is his Bio:

Played in 13 games, logging 25 minutes ... Averaged 7.5 minutes in UK's exhibition season including nine minutes against Ouachita Baptist ... Connected on both three point attempts against Ouachita, finishing the game with six points and a steal ... Saw first action of the season vs. Delaware State, grabbing a rebound in one minute of play ... Nailed a three-pointer in two minutes vs. Longwood ... Played a season-high four minutes vs. Lamar, earning one assist ... Played a career high five minutes against Mississippi Valley State pulling down a rebound and missing on his only shot, a three point attempt ... Posted a career-high two rebounds in four minutes vs. Tennessee State ... Played one minute each at Arkansas and vs. Tennessee and two minutes at South Carolina.

"Mark is a great asset to this year's team. He has shown a passion for the game from day one that has stood out. He's a valuable teammate (translation: he's a great clapper and can round up towels quickly) and helps provide senior leadership to an inexperienced team."
- John Calipari

So it seems logical the kid wrote a book. He had plenty of free time since he rarely saw the court.

Agreed 100%. Of course the kid is writing a book, and the reasons are obvious. However, its still an inside look from someone who was in the locker room and seen the inner workings of that team on a daily basis. Also, if anyone actually listens to the video, he really doesn't bash Gillispie as most seem to think I suggested.

it doesn't matter that he was/is a no-names. it's his story. get over it.

he was on the team, so mark krebs is someone who has more insight on that time period of UK hoops than 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 percent of everyone on the planet.

he didn't bash Billy so i'm not exactly sure why you are so butt hurt over it. i'm going to go out on a limb and say you haven't played organized sports, or at least not at a high level. that being said you can't say who is and who isn't mentally tough. if these things that Billy is accused of is true, then he sounds like he has a few screws loose.

I'm still trying to figure out when I said he "bashed" Billy. It isn't that hard to do what the coach says. Maybe Stephenson should have hit the weight room, maybe Meeks should have realized that he had a good post player in the paint to defer to, the list goes on.

What team tells the coach they don't want to practice? They deserved to lose if no one could step up and implement a practice.

Impatience among the WildKat faithful caused the demise of a damn fine basketball coach. No one can convince me otherwise.

the caliber of athletes from utep and a&m are probably a lower caliber than the ones at KY. i will say lower caliber players will usually work harder than top talent. regardless telling your best player he's off the team during halftime of a game where he is carrying your sorry arse is pathetic. then letting him back on the team shows the rest of the players that you are a joke

sorry TX, Billy wasn't a good fit for KY. however if he does take over a texas tech or smaller bball school i think he'll do fine
