.796 career OPS vs lefties. Really solid defender. I actually like it the more I think about it. I think Sims actually still has potential but let’s ride

Sims was never going to get a shot over some of the other arms we have. I dont mind letting a guy like him go. I also wouldnt mind if we let Ynoa, Wiegel, Sbotka go

Pretty glowing review from MLBtraderumors for a .205 hitter.
At first glance, it’s something of a swap of unwanted assets, as both teams clearly had different plans with their roster spots.
For the Atlanta organization, this represents an easily justifiable roll of the dice on Duvall. As he closes in on his 30th birthday, Duvall is stuck in a rough campaign. But he has huge power — he topped thirty bombs in each of the past two seasons — and also grades out as a high-end defender in left field.
In the near-term, Duvall will bolster the current outfield mix. Even if he isn’t able to boost his productivity at the plate all that much, he has been much better against left-handed pitching this season and over his career. The opposite is true of struggling Braves center fielder Ender Inciarte, who could give way to phenom Ronald Acuna up the middle when the situation calls for it.
There’s also some future value here for the Braves to hope for. Duvall is heading into arbitration this fall for the first time. While he’ll likely be relatively expensive given his lofty home run rate and ample playing time in recent seasons, he could still be quite a valuable asset. With Nick Markakis headed to free agency, the organization does need corner outfield options.

Trying to put together some form of a Harper trade and it’s a tough one: I’m thinking something like...

Ender/Gohara/Allard/Riley/Peterson for Bryce/Herrera?

Ender to help offset some of the salary, maybe they take some of the A-Gon contract...Nats get three top ten prospects for Bryce and three overall top 100. Might be too much?
For rental Harper...?

Too much IMO. If we were like one piece away from WS contender I’d probably feel differently.

Trading some of these arms was inevitable and probably won't matter... but they're slightly scary every time.

Maybe instead of Gohara/Allard, you give up Wright or Anderson instead? So if we did the same amount for Machado that the O’s got, it’d be Riley/Zimmerman/Davidson/Ynoa...which I would do in a heartbeat. But the Nats don’t have to trade Harper like the O’s had too. Nats could still make some sort of run. It’s difficult to process

What’s with Ender? I know nothing about his contract. No trade value?

Super team friendly contract (signed through 2021 with $21M left) but he’s so bad against lefties and has really struggled this year I don’t think you’d get much for him

Washington isn't going to trade him to a division rival.

With two months to go, why would they care? He’s a pure rental. You’re prolly right but it’s so dumb teams like this. Get the best haul you can get.
