The Braves Thread

Jordan had the best prime of anyone but he also only played 11 seasons of meaningful basketball. He only played 18 and 17 games for two years, missed a full season, and was done in his Washington years. Durability is important. It’s the biggest mark on his career. I think it’s logical to say Kareem is the GOAT based on the fact he played 20 seasons of basketball and was elite for 17 of those.

Kareem 1st or 2nd team All-NBA seasons- 15

Jordan actual NBA seasons- 15

Umm have you never heard of Wilt Chamberlain?

ya know averaged 30 and 23 freakin’ boards over 15 season.

When he played in a partially segregated league and three players over 6’8 and in a league where they were shooting 160 times per game?

Take Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem, or whatever great center and put him in 1960 they would have put up Wilts numbers.

Kareem is one of the top 5 best centers of all time and dominated the NBA and his position for over a decade, in the era when centers owned the League. But, if u can't dribble the ball down court and create your own shot, imo, u can't be the GOAT.

Btw, if anybody was wondering, my top 5 centers are, in order: Wilt, Hakeem, Kareem, Russell and Shaq

Otherwise known as.... half his career.

You're going fanboy over a stat sheet.

And was still a top 5-10 player in his league in year 15 when Jordan was smoking cigars and gambling.

Debatable. By then, Kareem was probably a 20/7 type Center benefiting from a great 4 and a great PG.

The league was loaded back then.

I saw your original post before u edited it and wouldn't that had been Wilt?

Wilt was really good in his final couple years so I think that’s fair.

The issue with Wilt is the same with Ruth. How do you judge a guy like him? His numbers are astronomical but it wasn’t really the same sport. It’s impossible to try and put it in in perspective with modern times.

I agree, but that's not what I'm talking about, I saw your original post about Jordan scoring with his D..... Still, Wilt would have been a dominant center in any era. At the same level, scoring a hundred in a game and averaging 20+ rebounds and 40+ points a game ? No, but still an all-NBA player that would be one of the most coveted free agents in the game.
