The point is that we cannot address our obvious needs in the starting rotation, at shortstop, and any other issue that pops up over the next three months (and honestly years) because we felt the need to upgrade the best catching tandem in the league and acquire the 7th (?) bullpen arm.

TDA is always hurt, and we needed a legit long term solution behind the plate. I’m assuming by drafting Shea, they didn’t think it was Willy, and weren’t sold on him being that guy.

We emptied the little cache we had to solve a problem that didn’t exist. If there’s one thing that happens over 162 games, it’s new problems. You use your farm system to build or to replenish your ML roster. The murphy and jiminez trades accomplished neither.

You know my feelings on the Jimenez trade. It was stupid.

After watching Murph behind the dish and essentially shutting down the run game I’m good with that trade.

You’re aware we traded 6 players, right?

You’re aware we had the best catching tandem in baseball, right?

You’re aware William Contreras is under very cheap team control for four seasons, right?

The amount of talent exiting this organization significantly outweighs the talent entering this organization. It’s why we can’t replace anyone with anything.

It’s why you get chadwick tromp, dylan dodd, jared shuster, ehire adrianza, vaughn grissom, etc. That is a direct byproduct of trading for sean murphy.

It’s not about Contreras vs Murphy.

It’s also why you get orlando arcia every day and still trot out the corpse of marcell ozuna but you think those guys are good so there’s no point

If you think that deal is what’s keeping us from another SS or LF then we might well just agree to disagree right now. They miss evaluated Vaughn. We won’t hear from anyone in that Murphy trade again outside of Willy. The depleted system is what it is but blaming that trade is crazy to me

you’re hilarious dude. Arcia is fine for what he is,and wanting Ozuna, who was going to be on the roster regardless to be good is a crime I guess.

I mean, I’m not sure what good starter or SS on the market Kyle Muller, Freddy Tarnok and Royber Salinas are gonna fetch. And if we traded Willy in the middle of the season for a starter or SS to roll with TDA/Tromp you would lose your mind lol

Also think it’s unfair to criticize AA for not seeing that Ian would need TJS, Kyle’s shoulder would be wonky and Fried would have a forearm strain in about a six week span.
