I can’t believe he’s not even as good as the (undisputed) best defensive shortstop in the league

I can’t believe he’s squarely average defensively on his best day and the worst offensive player in Major League Baseball every day

I can’t believe he passes neither the eye test (“dump truck”; my guy is a -7(!) moving to his left which is what my eyes and the numbers tell me!!) nor the numbers test (playing more innings than everyone on this list to be squarely average).

I was born in this great “debate”, you guys merely adopted it. Good day sirs!

Bae is great defender. I was making the distinction between Dansby and Simba (who was on a level all on his own).

He’s 8th in defensive value the last 2 years at the SS position on Fangraphs which uses OOA. Like I said, he’s not a Gold Glover and he’s not worth playing eveyday. But he’s a solid defender (who is not getting younger).

He’s just a troll at this point, sadly..
I’m a troll because our crown off-season acquisition is a 32 year old with one exception season in a decade of service?

This would be great if he were a depth piece. This is your new Orlando Arcia for the next 3 years. Excuse me for not doing backflips.

Yeah, 4 WAR LFers are TOTALLY depth pieces.....

Come on man
I can’t do it. He is this years Kelenic. Why can’t we just get some actual players that are probable to produce? Like players that we know exactly what we are gonna get. It’s always the players that have talent that occasionally rear their heads. He are getting lapped.

We were just looking at Kelenic playing just about everyday and we are complaining about a talented veteran, that gets on base at worse, and if the power is real this is going to be a really good deal. Not sure there’s a whole lot of downside or reason to hate it

Kelenic has struck out at 2 times the rate (2X!) that Profar has in his career and has a literal hole in his swing and approach. Just 2 different players brother

He is a career 8 WAR player. Whats more likely, at 32 he starts crapping out 4 WAR seasons or last year was an anomaly?

Everything about his rate stats suggest it was no fluke.

91.1 mph Exit Velocity puts him right in the top 10% of the league. Same for hard hit%. His BABIP of .302 matches up with the league average, so it wasn't luck driven. If those rates remain steady (nothing to suggest they won't), he will have another good season offensively. In fact, with the move to a more hitter friendly park, his overall stat line might even improve.

Could 2024 be a fluke? Sure. Nothing is impossible. But there are plenty of cases of guys figuring things out late in their careers. Jose Bautista being the poster child for this.

If he can continue to get on base at .380 then- worth it. Absolutely.

But that’s not exactly who he is.. I can’t act like he is some on base wizard.

and I’ll admit that it isn’t exactly that he is the issue here, it that this is our “move”

Not good enough

I know you won’t, but you should like at his batted ball data, paired with his swing change. There’s real reason to believe the improvement is legit.

we are constantly chasing a new OF by hoping former top talent really figure it out late in their careers. Can’t wait to trade back for Soler!
