The Braves Thread

You can’t protect some arms. There are gonna be guys who just don’t have the capability to stay healthy no matter what you do. And there are gonna be guys like Ryan, Clemens, Maddux, Glavine, Johnson who are naturally gifted and be able to throw 30+ starts for 20 years. They are rare though.

It’s still irresponsible to just go out there and say “ah **** it they’ll either make it or they won’t!” and assume that’s how it works. It doesn’t. You got to do what you can to protect dudes, especially when you live in the high velocity era like we do now
The Duds babied the crap out of Stone, Miller and May.... they all needed TJS..... ITs going to happen regardless.

If pitchers stopped throwing max effort every pitch arm injuries would go down, until then they will only continue to rise.
Correct. Fine tuning mechanics to push the boundaries of max effort, training to exert max effort and then continuously exerting max effort

add in the pitch clock and no one has much chance

That's 100% correct but it isn't going to happen.

IMO, that probably isn't even the biggest issue. I think most of the damage that gets done to arms might be before college. Year-round baseball, they don't play other sports, and they pitch (not throw, but pitch) all year long. By the time they get to college and pro, the elbows are just ready to explode.

I'm given to believe if the Phils were to experience the same injury issues as the Braves did last year, they'd be a lot closer to 4th than 1st in the division.
If they lost Wheeler in early April and Harper in Mid May, then Realmuto and Turner for 40+ games, they would have been competing with the Marlins for the cellar.

The sample size is small, but a buddy of mine was wondering of Pope has Rick's number. Their offense has played pretty well against our defense, and at least among the good teams they've played, our offense is the only unit their defense has looked competent against.
No, I just think this team is that bad at shooting.

Love Zig and Shak but they can't be on the floor together for extended periods.
ZZ
Gainey
Chaz
Igor
Felix

Gotta run those 5 together more.

Blame MLB and Manfred for getting rid of any sort residue on your hands. They created a problem that no one cared about. Like who really cares if they use a little rosin and sunscreen? Obviously, police the super sticky stuff but go back to how it was 6 years ago.

I disagree about Elite defensive. This team really isn't that good.
It's a S16 at best roster..... we will be a trendy early upset pick, again
#1 defensive team in the country in KenPom. I think they are elite defensively. The only games where I thought the defense wasn't all that good was the 2 games against UK. I thought they were awesome against UF the second game (and pretty good the first), awesome against Auburn, Miss St, etc.

You said it yourself though...they aren't a good shooting team, which keeps them from being an elite team. They will be a trendy upset pick in the NCAAT, and rightly so because of that.
