The Championships, Wimbledon

There's nothing more stressful than watching the score ticker on your smart phone while driving...and possibly illegal to boot. Last check says Fed up 5-2 in 4th?

If I were a state congressmen, I would immediately write a bill making it illegal to check score ticker while you drive.

Just kidding, that'd be a silly sounding law, but checking scores is dangerous. Not as dangerous as texting, though. If I don't die an old man of natural causes, I will die in a car wreck because i was texting.

The good news is that if you died today from texting or score checking, you will go to Heaven for accepting RF as your tennis savior. At least for today.

They're still playing? It's what, 1am in London right now?

No. I saw the score late in the day because I was at work and was busy. I'm a bit surprised they didn't play til' around 10, though, on centre court. It must have rained so hard that play was impossible by the time they got the roof closed.

I haven't been able to watch any tennis this morning, but I have seen the scores. If I had bet on the matches, I would have lost all of them except Murray.

You and me, both. Unexpected results. I know Kohlschreiber is playing well, but didn't expect him to win in straight sets. Didn't expect him to win at all, to be honest.

If I've heard this right Brian Baker was playing a Futures level tournament this time last year. Isn't that the same level tournament that Rhyne Williams, Tennys Sandgren are playing right now?

Yes. I think his last futures event was in March. Yes, I think Williams is still playing in them.

Right. Futures are the lower level minor leagues. Challengers are the upper level minor leagues.

Last year, Baker played in several futures and several challengers. In fact, him and Williams (and probably Sandgren too...haven't checked) played in several of the same tournaments, though they never played each other.

Williams and Sandgren have been playing both Futures and Challengers. Williams has played a few more challengers than Sandgren, but they are both -- and JP Smith too -- playing in a Challenger this week. Williams won his first round match. He beat Rik De Voest, who was ranked 148 in the world. I think he plays again tomorrow.

Sandgren got a really ****ty draw. He got Benjamin Becker in the first round, who is the highest ranked guy in that particular tournament (in the 120s). Actually, I think Sandgren might be playing right now. He had the last match of the evening.

HOLY CRAP. Sandgren took the first set 6-1! On serve in the second...down 2-3 and serving.

Sandgren is a baller too!

Okay, so Benjamin Becker beats James Blake in the first round of Wimbledon. He then plays Radek Stepanek in the second round of Wimbledon, and he gets beat. This gives him plenty of time to fly to the States to play in the Challenger tournament this week.

His current ranking is 124, and this is the highest ranking of any player in this week's challenger. As such, he is the first seed. In the first round, he gets matched up against Tennys Sandgren, who recently left the University of Tennessee to turn pro, along with his buddy Rhyne Williams. Sandgren is currently ranked 298 in the world.

Tennys Sandgren just smacked Benjamin Becker multiple times in the face with his semi-erect penis. 6-1, 6-4.

Next!

Breaking Benjamin - sounds like a good habit to get into. I've never been impressed w/ Becker. But good for Sandgren.

So, Djokovich/Mayer, Fed/Youzhny, Murray/Ferrer and Tsonga/Kohlschreiber on the slate today. Bye Mayer, bye Youzhny. Murray/Ferrer - toss a coin. Tsonga will win if he shows up, but who ever knows when he's going to..

The only time I can recall seeing him play was when he beat Agassi at the USO in Agassi's last match there.

Maybe what this really tells us is that James Blake should quit tennis.

He'll show up if I'm paying attention. Damn dirty Frenchmen.

I watched some of Tsonga/Fish on my DVR. Tsonga should have lost that second set, which would have been crucial.

Sounds like you need to hit the golf course this morning and stay well away from the tv :)

Looks like RF's doctor prescribed three or four relaxing sets of tennis against Youzhny.

Florian Mayer isn't going to win a set against Djoker but he is stroking the ball today. He has such a weird game but is playing well. Against anyone but Djoker he might have a chance today.

Finally, what is up with ESPN/Wimbledon pushing these customized towels down everyone's throat? I can't decide if the extreme perspiration commercial or wimbeldon towel commercial is more annoying.

Seems to have been the correct prescription. 1, 2 and 2.
That damn coffee commercial with the coffee cups playing tennis is the one that gets me.

I'm looking out for some potentially reasonable odds on Djoke.

Your boy says he has tendonitis, Kid. Doc told him to rest for 15 days. Hello, Canary Islands...
