The chances Bama plays in the title game?

So why wouldn't OU's win over the #2/3 team jump them back up over Alabama after championship game week? (wondering if the same possibly could be said about Oregon after beating Stanford as well)

If Oregon wins out, sure. You definitely would be in a pickle, there.

If Oregon and Oklahoma win out... OU has a really bad loss at home, while Oregon or Bama would set up another rematch.

I'm personally curious to see what might happen were Arkansas to beat LSU at the end of the season

Bama's best chance is for Arky to beat LSU and create a 3-way tie. If the BCS rankings somehow favor Bama, they'd be in position to make the NC if either Stanford or Okie State lose a game. It's a reach, because Bama would probably need LSU to finish 3rd out of the 3 in the BCS, since the 2nd-place team can jump the leader based on head-to-head if they are within 5 BCS spots.

I think Bama has to reach the SEC title game to reach the NC, so the above is their only shot.

Pretty positive LSU has the hardest schedule of the three. I know Arkansas' schedule isn't in the top 50. If schedule is taken into account in BCS standings, LSU will win, but I am not sure if it is. Arkansas barely beat Vandy on the road and A&M in a neutral environment, they also struggled with Ole Miss. Looks more and more likely that LSU will beat them easily.

Now that I think about it betting on LSU against Arkansas if the spread is under 9 would be a pretty good bet. Much like betting on Ark. vs. USCe was last night.

Because they lost at home to a 29 point underdog at home

Most TN fans were pulling for LSU. The SEC is the top dog and any team that hires a quality coach in the SEC right now can win a NC.

And these obvious statements have what to do with hoping that Alabama gets a rematch?

I know why no one here wants to see Bama in the NC I can understand that, but
I don't know why people hate great defensive football so much. Lower levels of testosterone?

The two best teams played last night and it was like a Ravens/Steelers slugfest late in November or December

Strength of Schedule is part of the BCS formula indirectly, because the computer polls calculate rankings based on who everybody played, and how they did.

Yeah but as a factor it's at best like a third of a third (a ninth) since the change

Holy crap. I think I'm at the point where I'm rooting big-time for Oklahoma State the rest of the way. A national title game rematch would be the most anticlimactic thing possible in this situation, considering one of the teams isn't even going to win its own division.

I comes down to a simple question... Should the BCS title game be the best two teams in the land or not?.... If so, you have to have LSU and Bama in the game if they both win out from here.

I'm of the opinion that if you don't win your own conference (heck, your own division), you don't deserve a chance to win the national championship.

But they already played. I really, really want to see a rule put in where the teams in the BCSMNCG have to win their conference.

Wow. So if OSU loses Bedlam, then we probably will see a rematch.

Not quite. They said that bama's still just above Stanford due to the computer rankings pushing them up

It's felt that -more than likely- if Stanford beats Oregon that will give the computers enough to push them back over Alabama

I really think there ought to be a rule saying a team has to win its conference to play for the bcsmnc.

That said, I think we see a rematch. I don't give Stanford or okie lite much chance to win out.

what happened to all the "the season IS a playoff" Bama lost...they are out!!

I don't have a lot of faith in Stanford to beat Oregon. Stanford's slot receiver won't be playing.

Makes sense. Didn't look at how close the number was between Stanford and Bama. Computer rankings are really keeping Stanford down right now.

Exactly. Bama had their chance last night with HFA, a better coach, and relatively equal talent, and they blew it.

If you haven't noticed, even after losing, they are still a full half point ahead of your Broncos (which is a fairly sizable gape in the BCS standings). Boise is officially out of the title picture. If Stanford and Okie Lite both lose, which has a pretty decent chance of happening, we will be seeing a rematch for the title. Book it.

Saban might be a better coach on paper, but I feel pretty comfortable saying Les did some unspeakable things to Lucifer. In no way is he a better game coach than Saban, but between the talent and breaks he gets without even asking for, he might be the best coach the college game has seen in a long, long time.

You can't answer that question without a playoff. The BCS will catch pure hell if two SEC teams get a rematch. It will deserve it. A rematch might be the thing that undoes the BCS. You can say these are the two best teams in the nation all you want to, only LSU had the resume to back up the claim, but unless someone else gets a shot then you'll never know a damn thing. Alabama getting a rematch would be ridiculous.

I'm not worried about Boise playing in the MCG...I know it's not gonna happen..they will be in a BCS bowl and that is cool with me..I just want to see what the BCS was ment to do...and if you don't win YOUR conference, you don't win the MNC.
