The Chris Johnson Saga Thread

I think that when a player signs a contract, he should fulfill that contract and then try to get more money. For one, he got a 7mil signing bonus and he is set to make 550k I believe. And I am not saying all this just because he is on a rival team, this is how I feel about every NFL player. These guys are spoiled and need to play out their contracts.

I generally agree with Justin's line of thinking, but the guy just set the single season records for yards from scrimmage and 2,000 of those were on the ground. He deserves more than what he is getting based on that alone.

He did and he deserves to be rewarded and he will. He signed a contract and should fulfill that obligation. Once his current contract expires he will get paid, and deserves to.

I am just sick of these millionaire athletes sign a contract and then refuse to complete their part of it. If the don't agree with the pay of the contract, then don't sign it.

NFL money isn't guaranteed.

If he should fulfill his contract before asking for a raise, NFL teams should have to guarantee all money in contracts.

The man is worth more than 550 thousand a year.

With that being said, NFL teams have their hands tied due to no CBA being in place. They aren't going to resign him and owe him millions while there is a work stoppage.

It's a bad deal all the way around.

I hope they do what needs to be done to keep CJ. They need a franchise player. God knows VY isn't.

he won't be going anywhere. his contract isn't up for another 3 years.

the problem is by league rules there currently isnt a realistic way to pay him the money he wants this year.

Right. I just hope when the time comes that Bud does what it takes to keep him. Dude is a special back.

they'll pay him then. That's a case everyone (sports media and business) knows already will happen. He's a completely different case than Haynesworth

I think he's going with Bo Scaife and the franchise tag.

that's only if they can't agree on the numbers (and they make no change, which they can do much better after he has a 3rd season of play) before his contract's up

He got off to a slow start last yr and then exploded. He will get off to a big start this yr and his pursuit of the record will earn him just as many carries

The Nashville Tennessean reports Titans HC Jeff Fisher said he plans to distribute the workload a little more evenly between RB Chris Johnson and his backup this season. Johnson had a league-leading 358 carries for the 2009 season. Former Titans RB LanDale White (64) and RB Javon Ringer (8) were the only other backs to get carries — a grand total of 72. "We just have to be prepared to adjust," Fisher said. "It's a little unrealistic to think (Johnson) is going to handle that kind of workload year after year after year.''

That's why he wont.

Getting tackled 700 times in 2 seasons will wear you down.

Look at any RB that had a lot of carries in one season. The following season there is a slight drop off.

Jamal Anderson is someone you may want to look up. Jamal Lewis did the same thing.

Terrell Davis, Rueben Droughns, Larry Johnson, Clinton Portis all are guys that toted the ball a lot then had a slight drop off in productivity the next season. I could go on and on and on with RBs that do this.

It happens. It's not a knock on Johnson at all. He's one of the best RBs in the NFL.

You can also look at the smaller speed guys to see they wear down. Willie Parker is the newest example.

None of those backs are anything like chris johnson. One of the best backs??? He is easily the best and its not close.

I think he means that if he has as many carries and tackles as last season - of course that keeping up in and out each season - it's going to wear on him. It's in the same same manner as the so many carries and hits wore down eddie george after 6 seasons or so

not that he's weaker
