The Chris Johnson Saga Thread

I generally agree with Justin's line of thinking, but the guy just set the single season records for yards from scrimmage and 2,000 of those were on the ground. He deserves more than what he is getting based on that alone.

I would venture to say there have been more players that got more money than what they deserve than underpaid players like CJ.

I don't want Johnson to get more than 300 carries. Sure, we can keep pounding it to him, but by 2012 he'll be dead.

oh yeah, easily. If the system weren't impeding it (30% rule) I really wouldn't be too surprised if the Titans would renegotiate

Getting tackled 700 times in 2 seasons will wear you down.

Look at any RB that had a lot of carries in one season. The following season there is a slight drop off.

Jamal Anderson is someone you may want to look up. Jamal Lewis did the same thing.

Terrell Davis, Rueben Droughns, Larry Johnson, Clinton Portis all are guys that toted the ball a lot then had a slight drop off in productivity the next season. I could go on and on and on with RBs that do this.

It happens. It's not a knock on Johnson at all. He's one of the best RBs in the NFL.

You can also look at the smaller speed guys to see they wear down. Willie Parker is the newest example.

This is a perfect example of why the Titans need to pay him sooner rather than later. If they wait until his current contract is up or close to expiring to pay him, his productivity is sure to drop off, and we will be talking about how the Titans are overpaying him.

Here we go. Congrats you're starting something that could go back and forth forever.

you're of the "Adrian Peterson is the best NFL running back in the league" persuasion?

No I'm of the not being a blind Titans sheep persuasion. Saying CJ is "hands down" the best rusher in the NFL because of one good season is a stretch.

That being said, the man deserves his money and I think if you outplay your current deal, then you need a raise, period.

Then would you say that if they underplay their current deal, they should be allowed to have their money taken away? Because if so, I'd say Daniel Snyder would like a check from Mr Haynesworth as well as Ole Bud needing it to rain with some Adam Jones dollars.

That's why you don't sign long-term deals worth tons of money. If you want what's best for your franchise, you negotiate a new deal to give the star player what he deserves, but make it shorter (unlike Haynesworth's ludicrous contract which he didn't deserve anyways IMO).

IMO, they should be paid on the performance of the season, not what they did in the past seasons.

Well, neither of us can change how the contracts are written. Yeah, CJ got the short end on the contract but there's plenty of other Titans that were over paid for nothing - see Carl Pickens, Yancy Thigpen, PacMan Jones.

End of his career, end of his career, horrible human being.

Javon Kearse

Albert (did we really get what we paid him? he sure was injured alot and never played a full season). Both at the beginning of their careers.

To some extent VY. He's rode the bench more than he's played so far.

Algae Crumpler (yeah, at then end of career but still we never got anything close to what he did before).

Being a horrible person has no bearing on a contract or their production.

He's started 42 of the 65 games he's been on the team for.

Kinda safe to say he's been on the field more than he's ridden the bench...

you want to hang your hat on that then go for it but his performance vs pay is pathetic.
There's plenty of QB that could have been drafted later than 1st round to hold the clipboard for Grandpa Kerry Collins.

VY's pay vs performance. Titans gave him a 5 yr contract worth $25.7 guarantee, or $5 million+ a year only to have him benched for an entire season (2008) plus 6 games in 09. When you get $5mill to hold a clipboard, that's pizz poor performance.

you said he's been on the bench more than he's played, I'm pointing out he hasn't

now if you're saying he's a bust or not a good qb and you don't like him, go ahead. But that's a completely difference from what you were saying

He also played all of 2007 an almost all of 2006; he's been in the league longer than 2 years...so one season out of 4 means piss poor?

He was paid that much because he was the 3rd overall pick.

Jevon Kearse was brought back mainly for sentimental reasons.

The defense was exponentially better with Albert than without. He was worth every dime.

No.

Alge was brought in mainly to tutor the young TEs. He was asked to block a whole lot more than in his time with the Falcons. No one in the Titans organization feels cheated out of anything during Alge's time here.
