1. An easy victory over a bad team. The game was never in doubt and after it got to 14-4 it never got to 10. They took care of business and played well on both sides of the ball. It was nice to relax and enjoy a victory.

2. The freshmen all played well today. Davis played hard inside and got six rebounds. He solidified his spot in the rotation. I was very impressed with how physical he was today. Darius Thompson handled the press and zone very well. I loved his active hands on defense (despite getting burned a few times). For the first time, Hubbs wanted the ball and made some nice plays around the hoop. I loved his offensive rebound and finish. This was a very good game for them to get some confidence.

3. If Antonio Barton and Jordan McRae shoot like they did tonight, you are going to be hard pressed to beat Tennessee. They were lights out all night and scored in every which way. It was fun to watch. Reminded me a little bit of C.J. Watson and Chris Lofton using their abilities to play off each other.

4. The defensive activity was the best it has been all year. They played aggressive passing lanes, they did a great job hedging and switching, and they extended their defense again to 25 feet, giving The Citadel no room. Too many easy shots on the perimeter though. The rotation is just too slow right now. 8-18 from three for The Citadel is not acceptable.

5. We've complained about the offense, but I do love that this team takes the right three pointer. They don't force three's like they have in the past. Every perimeter shot is in rhythm. This is an improvement.

6. Tennessee handled the zone better. They moved pretty well, especially the posts. The ball reversal is pretty good right now. They are getting stuck in the corners too often however. When that ball is in the corner, it has to come out quickly. They got trapped too much.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: Antonio Barton. His shot making was very good tonight. His on ball defense on the top is just such a difference maker. He has a good sense of when to push and when not to. He's better than expected right now and he might be the best shooter for Tennessee since Chris Lofton. I absolutely love what he has brought to the team. Shout out to Jordan McRae too.

8. Josh Richardson hasn't shown it completely yet, but he's just a better player. Period. He's quicker, he's more athletic, he's making better decisions. Come SEC play, he's going to be a huge factor.

9. Three offensive rebounds for The Citadel off free throws, plus I think four baskets off inbounds plays. Those are free points for the opposition. You can't have that.

10. However, not much to complain about. Nice, solid win and they took care of business. You get four days before Tennessee State to get better. I liked the instant energy. The start of the second half wasn't very good, but they got it together and finished the game for an easy win.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

The four guard system is the way to go. It worked last year and, hopefully, Martin isn't too wedded to the idea of a Stokes-Maymon post due to put this into place. Our guards is where our strength lies.

Great writeup as usual, ZJC. Totally agree about Richardson; as much of a cliche as it is, he's the glue guy. Helps us in ways that aren't always reflected in the stat sheet, primarily with his defense. And he can knock down the midrange jumper as well as finish around the rim. Just doesn't take many shots, which is fine for now.

7-13(.538) from 3. They tells me we aren't just jacking up threes. It is well within the flow of the offense.

30-53(.566) from the field and we missed some shots in the post we should have hit. These numbers on any night will be successful.

It's only Citadel but with what I seen we are starting go gel together offensively and defensively.

Barton is a breath of fresh air. Golden could get the ball out and run but Barton is speed that we need on the fast break. He doesn't make dumb mistakes either. His shooting is great. He's going to be solid.

Agree when Stokes or Maymon go to the bench, but Maymon is better than Moore and we're better with those 2 out there IMO.

Very pleased with all aspects of the game. Much better than the previous 2. They are coming together as a team and will just continue to improve. Having an experienced and talented PG makes a huge difference. Nice addition to the team.

Maymon and Stokes together simply clog up the middle and neither is particularly great around the rim. We're much better going four wide and letting our guards attack the space created. I've yet to see the benefit of the two bigs together and they do a poor job of feeding each other. They also play the same type of game and are both, essentially, fours.

Go with the four guards and play balls to the wall.

Pardon me if this is just a massive brain dump, but what the heck ever happened to Chris Jones? Big time commit a couple years ago, and I haven't heard from him since. Did he not qualify academically?

Be interested in seeing a plus/minus for the 2. Right now our guards aren't rebounding good enough to play Maymon 10 minutes a game. Stokes also plays better with Stokes out there IMO, he finds him and knows his game.

It's also easier to play 4 guard against mid majors with no bigs, try playing 4 guard against Kentucky and Moore/Davis will get abused.

Good grief!

Realistically how high can we finish??

Hope we don't pick the wrong game to let the law of averages catch up with us

As Z mentioned the biggest thing now is we are taking GOOD threes. Barton actually had an end of half heave, so that numbers realistically a bit higher.

If we take good 3s I think we can remain around 40%, which is phenomenal.

How many schools have two bigs? Plus, you are creating a mismatch with the extra potential big away from the basket. Hell, Davis almost plays as a 3 anyway.

I have yet to see proof that Stokes plays better with Maymon, but have seen plenty of proof to the contrary. We also went on our best run of games last year after going to a 4 guard system.

We didn't have Maymon last year so that's a bit different.

If our 4th guard was a threat from 3 I would agree, but have you noticed how defenses play Moore?

It's pointless to argue it because Maymon will be playing minutes so long as he's healthy. We will play 4 guard with Moore/Davis when either Maymon or Stokes sit.

Didn't make the grades. Pearl guy all the way an still wanted to be a Vol. Counzo looked past him at first so he committed to Louisville after juco and is playing there.

Wish we had him I watched him in person dominate Joe Jackson everytime they played

At some point, if he's as good a coach as some are stating, Martin will need to realize that the 4 guards have been working the best and Maymon and Stokes together isn't our best option.

Well I disagree 100%, but ok. If you have an All-Sec forward on your team you play him.
