People will call Martin an idiot if he really even considers sitting Maymon for a four guard line up. These two have great chemistry and work well with each other.

I won't. I don't think Maymon is playing well right now and I think in spots that a Stokes/Jrich/Mcrae/Barton/Thompson lineup looked like something I could mess somebody up with if I wanted to for @ 3-4 minutes. Moore could be in there as well.
Like I've said, Stokes likes to get up and down. It helps his flow and his intensity. He falls asleep in a halfcourt game. After watching Stokes try in the last games to take it coast to coast and watching him run the lane when we do push, I don't expect to hear more debating whether he likes to run the floor or not.

As Z mentioned the biggest thing now is we are taking GOOD threes. Barton actually had an end of half heave, so that numbers realistically a bit higher.

If we take good 3s I think we can remain around 40%, which is phenomenal.

Yep. That would be great

No he doesn't. I was a back to the basket post player and LOVED going coast to coast with the ball in my hands like every post player on planet earth. But like most post players, he likes to run on his own terms. He can get up and down, sometimes he will, but it's not like he wants to do it on a regular basis.

Stokes gets focused when he's not in foul trouble or you give him some early play calls like we did in the USC Upstate game. Like every post in basketball.

At some point, if he's as good a coach as some are stating, Martin will need to realize that the 4 guards have been working the best and Maymon and Stokes together isn't our best option.
Depends on who you're playing.

Much more active on both ends of the floor, and it is nice to see some depth. I know Citadel is a bad team, but we needed to look good tonight, and we did.

Got it Z. You are right. He doesn't like to run the break. Not even tonight as he was running with the 4-1 and trying to fill the lane looking for passes from Thompson. You know what Stokes thinks and doesn't think. I forgot.

He's a post. Of course he wants to run a break a couple times a game. Did Shaq want to run every play since he loved to run a break?

Is that why Stokes holds the ball for three seconds after every rebound and never looks to outlet. Because he's dying to run? Is that why he's almost always the last one back?

Agree with this. Most (good) teams we play will have two actual post players, but if they don't, we should consider a 4 guard lineup to give Maymon more rest and make sure Maymon and Stokes don't both get in foul trouble.

I do think Maymon is a little rusty, though, and this will be less of a big deal as the season goes on. Maymon is athletic enough to be a stretch 4 already despite having embraced his role as a post player - he's more of a 4 than Davis, but not that much more.

I noticed we did have a lot of Thomson/Barton out there together.

Bingo

Against some teams 4 guard would work better, against others Maymon/Stokes is what's best.

It's called being versatile. Suggesting sitting Maymon in favor of Moore is one of the more asinine things I've seen, Maymon is gonna average a double double.

Having two ballhandlers is convenient, especially when Barton can light it up.

Especially if one of our other guards are having an off night. Simply let either Barton or Thompson be the 2 (preferably Barton) and run the offense. Barton isn't small so him playing the 2 wouldn't be that bad.
