This is the one me and the wife love, and practically 0 calories. Fresh squeezed lemon subs in when limes are off season and expensive. I do not care for sweet drinks.

A good variation is La Croix or one of the slightly flavored Deer Park sodas used as the mixer (not sweet, just a hint of raspberry or lemon).

Which Vodka? I prefer Grey goose myself but will also use Smyrnoff Blue label.

My go to is an Old Fashioned.

1 cube sugar in the raw
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes smoked orange bitters
2 oz rye (currently using Knob Creek)
1 oz Hochstadter's Slow & Low
orange peel
1 large ice cube

Muddle sugar cube and bitters then turn glass to completely coat inside. Add ice cube then whiskey and peel.

This is also my go to. I've just started making them at home. Never thought to mix two types of bitters.

Angel's Envy is quite good for an old fashioned, too.

What is hochstadters?

Well, except for the vodka. But it's not bad comparatively. Club soda or La Croix is the way to go though. I don't know how many times I've met folks with no clue about the calories in standard tonic water.

ETA - wow, I took too long on this post and was way late.

I do enjoy the occasional Grey Goose and tonic.

Of course Grey Goose is the top shelf choice, Tito's for mid range, Deep Eddy for normal, nothing special occasions.

All joking aside, I believe Tito's is better than Goose. It blends into citrus easier, it's more finely distilled, and them taters is Mexican grown.

Though my go to vodka for cocktails will always be Kissui. Rice vodka. Distilled with some super pure Japanese spring water used in most top shelf sake brands and the rice is top notch quality, though you'd never guess in the taste. It's seamlessly blended and since the US is the only major market, it's a must have for anyone who enjoys vodka. This stuff is best enjoyed on the rocks with no tonic or effervescence of any sort. It would only take away from it's purity.

I used to make an easy margarita

6 oz tequila
6 oz beer
6 oz can of frozen limeade

throw into a blender with ice cubes

I called it the devils margarita with 6 oz ingredients.

Tip of the cap to the White Russian as well, speaking of vodka drinks. Although decadent and sweet, sometimes I get in an "El Duderino" mood.... if your into the whole brevity thing.

There is a MUCH cheaper brand of coffee liqueur (Kalua) called Komodo made by Dekyuper. I can't tell the difference in a drink and a third the price in my parts.

While that certainly seems like an interesting cocktail, I would be hard pressed to refer to it as a margarita seeing as it only has one margarita ingredient in it.

And since margaritas seem to be tge topic, here's something in that vein...

1.25 oz Mezcal (that's smoky tequila for those who don't know... "scotch tequila" if you will)
0.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse
0.5 oz Green Chartreuse
1.0 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
1.0 oz Lime

Best. Drink. Ever.

Is that a Mezcal based "The Last Word"?

Actually, if I remember correctly I think Chivo's Taqueria in downtown Knox makes a very similar cocktail. It was delicious. Mezcal can make for interesting rifs on classic cocktails.

Tell y'all what... I have some filled out notebooks littered with some "sweet jesus" sips. How would you guys (bham) feel about me slinging a .pdf or sporatic pic of each?

Nothing dip****s like me love doing more than learnin' folks on libations.

would love it - sorry for the delay in responding

I've been wondering what to do with Campari - will try.

Tried a Negroni with it and it was horrendous but I might have been doing it wrong. (Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth).
