Is that a Mezcal based "The Last Word"?

Actually, if I remember correctly I think Chivo's Taqueria in downtown Knox makes a very similar cocktail. It was delicious. Mezcal can make for interesting rifs on classic cocktails.

Yes and yes. Theirs is a more approachable variant that tones down the Mezcal, 86's the Yellow Chartreuse, and doubles down on the Green.

Basically, it sticks to the exact Last Word formula, replacing the gin with mezcal.

Try a mezcal old fashioned! Use agave nectar in place of simple syrup and zest/garnish with a lime/grapefruit peel instead of orange or lemon. I also like to use tiki chocolate bitters in place of angostura.

That does sound nice. And the chocolate bitters would synergies with the smoky/ earthen notes of the Mezcal much better than some regular old angostura bitters. I'll have to throw one of those together here soon.

And that agave nectar is what really ties everything together.

I may have posted this a way's back in the OT thread, but this is one of my favorite originals to make at home (any bar with volume would be knee deep if these were ordered in quantity).

Hernan's Folly

From right to left:

1.0 Tequila Corralejo Reposado
0.25 Cynar
0.25 Luxardo Maraschino
0.5 Manzanilla Sherry
0.75 Fidencio Mezcal
0.75 Carpano Antica Formula (Sweet Vermouth)

2 dashes chocolate bitters
2 dashes cardamom bitters

Stir, strain, garnish with a dehydrated banana peel.

Get a hold of some Effen vodka sometime. One of the smoothest I've ever tasted.

Not a vodka person, but what I have had, Luksusowa has been the best and smoothest. Traiditional polish style triple distilled potato vodka.

I've been wondering what to do with Campari - will try.

Tried a Negroni with it and it was horrendous but I might have been doing it wrong. (Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth).

It's a pretty easy build. Equal parts of tbose three.

The type of gin is negotiable (I like barrel aged or dry), as is the sweet vermouth (cocchi torino is good, but punt de mes works great), but Campari stays.

It's a great drink with a graduated bitter front that saves the sweet for the long finish.

I don't know what it's called. My brother makes by the pitcher. But, it is great.

1/3 Jack daniel
1/3 Sour apple pucker
1/3 cranberry juice.

This is also my go to. I've just started making them at home. Never thought to mix two types of bitters.

Angel's Envy is quite good for an old fashioned, too.

What is hochstadters?

AE is good stuff. So, Hochstadters is rye whiskey blended with oranges, honey and a bit of rock candy and bitters (not as sweet as it sounds). It's marketed as a cocktail in a bottle, but I don't drink it that way. I had a nonstandard OF at a restaurant in Napa that used a bit of Slow & Low and really enjoyed the flavor so I sometimes use it in my own variants, just to enhance the flavor. Not everyone's cup of tea.

I am a big fan of Negroni, had one this afternoon.

Also had a Dow's White Port with Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic.

And a couple of Sherry based cocktails.

Rebujito - La Guita Manzanilla Sherry, Atxa Blanca, Lemon and Mint Simple Syrup

Adonis - La Guita Manzanilla, Lo-Fi Amaro and Angostura Bitters

Tried a riff on your Adonis and subbed in Gran Clasico for the LoFi and used grapefruit bitters in addition to the ango. It was really good.

A Mezcal based Negroni sounds like it would be an awesome drink.

Icepick with unsweetened tea. Captain Morgan and tea with a squeeze of lemon. These are both very good summer drinks.

I was a fan of this in my younger days, but we would use two bottles.
