The death of defense in football...

Both of my kids played soccor and I supported them both because it was healthy for them and they had fun and learned about playing a team sport.

It was a pain in the butt getting them to practice and games but it was for my kids.

Despite that I HATE soccor!!!

That's just me but everyone has the right to like or dislike certain things.

The fact is that it's the loco Liberals that are destroying football as we know it.

Kickoffs are too dangerous, LOL!

Next punts will be too dangerous, LOL!

D players can't accidently hit somebody in head to head contact, BS!

HOW does a D player miss a head to head when the other player ducks his head down on purpose?

D players can't hit the knees or below so WHERE can a D player make a solid hit to knock a O player off his feet?

Wes Welker took another hit to the head yesterday so now he can NOT play until independant Neurologist says he can play...BS!!!

If he says he feels fine and can play then let HIM decide if he plays or not because it's HIS body and it's HIS decision!!!

There's exactly NOBODY that forces anyone to play football at any level.

It the RIGHT and the FREEDOM of choice to let people decide for themselves if they want to play football, carry a gun, who to vote for, where or what to eat, ect, ect.

Socialist/Communist LIEberals need to sit down and shut up and let people decide for themselves what they want to do as long as it's legal!!!

EVERY single person knows that football has always been a tough, dangerous sport but if somebody loves the game and is willing to take the risk of injury then it's THEIR decision to make.

Do NOT belittle somebody because they love tough, smashmouth football just as we should NOT belittle people that love boring soccor.

Live and let live and stay OUT of other peoples business and lives.

The D has always caught up to every new style of O play and it will catch up to the hurry up spread too.

Just enjoy the games and hope the LIEberals will stop trying to destroy a great sport.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

Actually, if you want to blame someone for "destroying" football, look to the rules committees and former players suing the league. Those two things are at the forefront of all the changes happening. So, go up to Tony Dorsett and tell him what you really think. Go up to these players whose brains are turning to mush and tell them to stop being such ******* and suck it up like men. Please do, and come back here and tell us how it goes.

They take a risk when they sign up. That's why they're paid millions of dollars. Otherwise get a job at Mickey D's or set behind a nice desk somewhere. No one forced them to sign up to play for millions of dollars. They did that on their own already knowing the risks.

Guy does have a point. Lawyers, liberals and the news media have helped shape the game today. The game today isn't nearly as good as the game was just a few years ago..

It's getting to a point they may as well put flags on them and get it over with.

The problem is society is way passed the point "rub some dirt on it". The new world we live in is predicated on blaming somebody else for your failure/problems.

That being said…if there was a cover up on the medical info…

In reality, as people continue to get bigger and faster what is the real answer (as opposed to changing the rules)? Is it size and weight limits? There is really not a simple solution.

and no one is forcing the fans to pony up money to watch if they think the product is not worth it. The NFL follows the money

sure the players know what they're signing up for but I would imagine they're also told the team doctors will let them know when something's wrong. Why is keeping a guy with a concussion off the field for a couple weeks a negative?

I enjoy watching but I have no need to see players permanently injured or incapacitated for my entertainment. That is especially true for college players simply earning an education

It is funny that Jim McMahon is a poster boy for some of this movement….he has smoked enough pot to kill a dinosaur.

It's not a negative. The lawsuits after playing is what's killing the game. The NFL is just protecting themselves. It is hurting the overall product though. Anyone that has watched football more than 10 years knows this.

personally I view a guy like Seau as the poster boy

is the NFL making more or less money compared to 10yrs ago?

the game played 10yrs ago isn't the same as the 70's either. Play simply evolves

Bernard Pollard yesterday was a perfect example. Lead with his shoulder. Just because he's Bernard Pollard and plays physical he gets flagged for trying to knock the ball out of the receivers hands. That was pretty ridiculous. I guess he's just supposed to let him catch it, grab a bag of popcorn and watch him score..

You can't take the physicality out of the game and it not hurt it. This isn't flag football. Not yet anyway. May end up there at some point. They're flagging guys that are making clean hits and it's affecting the outcome of games..

Seau is a compelling story as well.

SI did a huge spread on McMahon early last year. It really stuck with me.

I remember the story but not sure I read it. Will look for it

it's just sad to me to see these men losing parts of their minds and seemingly wasting away for my entertainment. It's just not worth it to me and if they can make it safer then I'm all for it

Go ahead and watch ALL the Communist Kick-Ball your heart desires. And why don't you go ahead and convert to Islam while you're at it as well...there's a few Billion of those around too.

I bet you're part of the Wussification of College Football crowd too...against those nasty kick-offs...probably have your kids running around with helmets on...on LOTS of medicine...smelling like vegetable soup all the time...?

Damn those British communist!

Without a doubt, the new targeting rules and rules protecting QB's against late hits are helping slant the game towards offensive shootouts. Just as these rules are taking place, a new offensive scheme utilizing a dual-threat QB is spreading like wildfire. Is that QB about to turn the corner, or is he going out of bounds? As a defender, you've got .3 seconds to decide and the wrong decision is costly either way.

Also, the running backs are notorious for "lowering their heads" and powering forward for a few extra yards. Just think about the profile of said runner with their heads lowered. Where, as a defender, do you properly tackle the ball carrier without 1) getting a targeting penalty or 2) getting dump trucked ??

I would certainly rather be on the offensive side of the ball in this day and age.

I'm sorry, smoking pot does not do the same damage to a brain as getting hit in the head repeatedly. Get a clue.

Just curious. Do you have a son, and would you let him play football? Just a question.

they aren't going to call a targeting penalty for meeting a RB in the hole

I agree…and if someone would ask me whether I'd rather rehab an ACL or deal with dementia at 50, I would pick rehab a knee 100% of the time.

I'll bet you are married to a fat chick, wear a Peyton Manning jersey at least once a week, and have incidental contact with one or more farm animals
