1. Any win in Tuscaloosa is great win. 47 feet at a time suits this team.
2. It's time to thank Renaldo Woolridge for his play while the team was shorthanded, then cut his minutes. He's back to the same old, same old.
3. Kenny Hall gets it. He's not strong enough to bang yet, so he runs the opposing bigs ragged.
4. Scotty Hopson was the difference. He's becoming more aggressive, but I can't believe Alabama wasn't more physical with him.
5. Wayne Chism has to stop benching himself with silly fouls early. Tonight's game wouldn't have been competitive if he had been available for most of the first half.
6. The SEC West is pathetic. They're lucky they get to play each other.
7. Anyone who wonders why Mark Gottfried was fired only needs to look at the team on the floor tonight. That is an incredibly poorly constructed roster.
8. Bobby Maze doesn't need to be taking 11 shots. He's a facilitator, not a scorer.
9. Steve Pearl tries hard. Cam Tatum needs to take all of his minutes immediately.
10. Saturday will be another streetfight. Georgia will want a tempo similar to tonight's.

Would like Kenny Hall a lot more if he learned to block out. How did Pearl say we rebounded well tonight? What game did he watch?

Interesting to note that while we miss a lot of free throws as a team we have two 80%+ free throw shooters (Maze and Chism) that we can get the ball to late in games.

Thanks for the report as always, Hat. I actually wasn't able to see the whole game, but I did have two questions: Why has Tennessee improved so much on defense? What (if any) are the solutions to the putrid half court offense?

Ever see a team as bad behind the arc and still not physical inside as the BAMA team tonight?

The defense is better because they realize it has to be and they aren't trying to press, which they are awful at.

The offense is pretty much a case of what you see is what you get. I'd steal from the NBA and run some wing isolation for Hopson and some old Hubie Brown Hawk sets to try and get Wayne the ball coming weak side to strong, but it's just not a team with guys whose skills translate to quality halfcourt offense.

Even though Hall can rebound offensively very effectively, he can get outmuscled on the defensive end with rebounds. Without Chism, we are not a very good rebounding team.

And Kenny Hall is going to be an All-SEC caliber player. Why Williams was getting all his minutes is beyond me.

Not saying I disagree because I wasn't able to pay too much attention but he did have a double double.

Anthony Grant has that program on the right track though

Without the halfcourt offense improvement and with Tatum, Goins, and Williams back, what is the ceiling for this team?

I'd be stunned if this team gets any deeper than the Sweet 16.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. At least the defense gives them a chance if Hopson or Chism can go off against a good team in the tourney, and the crappy SEC should lead to an impressive record and good seed. It's disappointing to see Maze have two bad games following his two good ones.

My immediate take: in order to have any success in the SEC and NCAA tourneys, we will have to get Woolridge going (as Wayne is so apt to pick up early fouls), see continued progress with Hall (who, I believe, will be great), get Cam Tate back and hitting some outside shots, push Scotty to penetrate and score on a nightly basis, and find a nice spot for Stevie on the bench. He's a downright liability whenever he's on the court.

Pearl won't see one minute in March.

What we need is a scorer that can threaten to go off for 25 on a given night. Scotty would be the closest option, but really is anyone scared of this team putting up big numbers?

Sure we're a scrappy bunch right now, but our offense is just sputtering and gives me no confidence.

"After this game TN should have the top defense in the SEC." Raise your hand if you thought you'd see that statement made on this board.

On a side note, it was sort of comical watching Mikhail Torrance trying to go left all night. We know the Vols worked on something in practice!

You were probably 10 feet away from me.

I was just happy for a win, and to not have to forfeit sports for the Biggest Loser viewing party again.

11. There should be a law that prevents Ted Valentine from coming within a mile of a basketball court.

at least courts that the Vols are on. I'm good with him reffing everyone else's games.

Is he the least popular ref in the SEC? It seems like every team complains about him.

He sure does seem to be on the wrong side of a lot of calls.

those are the 2 for me (besides WC's foul issues). I think Hall has a really bright future once he gets some good weight on him.

Also, Wayne needs to hold a FT shooting class. He's picking up some really nice free points at the line
