He is the best talent fielding wise. Maybe Bargo or Chapman can hit better but IMO neither have cemented anything to fully pull Ensley. I really like the outfield of Dreiling, Ensley, and Tears fielding wise. Probably the best fielding outfield we have put together.Put the best talent on the field. It’s not like Ensley was tearing it up at the end of last year. He really tailed off and it’s carried into this year. He was hitting over .300 this time last year and his average plummeted like 30 points before he finished at .280. Tony has always done right by the team by putting guys in the lineup that will produce. It will eventually sort itself out because you can’t have a guy trending towards batting in the .240s. Catcher is the only position where that is acceptable because they have so much on their plate in the field. If he can’t hit consistently then objectively he shouldn’t be in the lineup because he isn’t pulling his weight. Good will, will only carry you so far if you don’t produce.
It’s definitely not a terrible pick and maybe you give him a year or two to learn to be a professional quarterback. He certainly will be playing behind a guy that is a true pro. It’s a QB rich draft, and even though they just signed Cousins, he is aging (36 when season starts). I don’t hate that you get a QB when you can, especially if you think he’s the guy. Not always the earliest QBs taken who are the best.
The problem is that one of the greatest benefits of drafting a young QB is that you save all that cash at the position, which we won’t be doing. Just hope he turns out to be the Penix I saw play against Texas, and not the Penix in the championship game. And I hope he’s better than JJ!
All I know is that Ensley’s average was .289 on 4/7 and it’s now .250 two and half weeks later. You can’t justify keeping a guy in the lineup whenever his average plummets 40 points in less than 3 weeks. I don’t care how great a defender he is. The amount of runs he costs at the plate and the amount of base runners he leaves on base are probably more than the runs he saves defensively. He is the best talent fielding wise. I get exactly where you are coming for. At least his hits have been homers last two weeks. I haven’t seen enough out of the others though. Tough call but for the time being I would stick with him. Possibly pull him after 2-3 at bats each game and let other have 2-3 at bats to prove what they can do. They have been doing that some anyway. All I know is that Ensley’s average was .289 on 4/7 and it’s now .250 two and half weeks later. Bargo deserves to start over him. He bats 60 points higher and an OPS 200 points higher. Has the same amount of HR and RBI in 30 less ABs. Fair is fair and he is taking ABs away from guys that deserve them. That’s all I will say and leave it at that.I get exactly where you are coming for. Understandable….Ensley has driven me nuts with some of his at bats this season but the glove has been superb! Of course we are 35-7 and I am a creature of habit and don’t want to change a damn thing! We will be a great team either way. I just want the potential to be maximized. And I know Tony expects the same thing because the standard has been set. That’s why I trust it will sort itself out. I just wanted to b**** and moan because there isn’t anything else to complain about lolUnderstandable….Ensley has driven me nuts with some of his at bats this season but the glove has been superb! @Volprofch05 you just thought your wandering in the wilderness days were over whenever you got rid of Ridder!
