No matter how you twist the subject. It's still "buying" players to achieve ultimate goal of winning a Championship..There are no contracts/salary cap/luxury tax in college sports. Apples to oranges, as this is the Wild West we are living right now. Vols have yet to prove they will spend for top talent other than Nico. And that deal seems like pocket change now. If we were signing him now the price would probably be double what we paid for him.
But in professional sports there is a draft, salary cap/luxury tax fees, and actual contracts so it is somewhat regulated. There is zero regulation in college sports and an absolute show right now. Even if we do end up spending the required funds to land top talent it wouldn’t change my perspective. These kids can choose to transfer in the middle of the freaking season. If you do that as a professional athlete you get fined/suspended. There is no punishment and it’s all one-sided at the moment. No matter how you twist the subject. I remember when everyone said " the NIL will be great for college athletics" . I never really wanted it but decided to try and embrace it rather than get upset at kids making money but this isn’t what anyone wants. The only beneficiaries are the players. Without legislation, this thing is only going to get worse. Whenever programs are actively encouraged to tamper with players of opposing teams without punishment, there is a huge problem. NIL and the portal themselves are not the problem. It is that there are little to no rules to guard against all the external factors. All the commissioners need to band together and devise a plan to combat this rather than focusing on playoff expansion. They will never do that though because they only care about making money for their leagues.I remember when everyone said " the NIL will be great for college athletics" . Apparently it was arranged prior to the game. Makes zero sense though because he could have gone out there and gotten injured on the first play of the game. Maybe there was something in his NIL contract that he had to participate in every available game to get a full payout. I don’t have a clue but it was very odd to me.What happened on that? I missed that part. Was he afraid of getting hurt
before the draft?

So he risked his NFL future on a NCAA record? The record he chased and achieved. Then he sat.
Ward breaks D-I passing TD record, sits 2nd half
With eyes on the NFL draft, Miami quarterback Cam Ward made NCAA history in his final college game, throwing a record-setting 156th touchdown pass, but he sat out the second half of the Hurricanes' 42-41 loss to Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.www.espn.com
