Sorta like metric system
US vs world

Edit: like prouncing letter "z" as "zed," I guess
And England renamed all its counties (counties are like states there, sort of) 20-30 years ago, so when I read their fiction, I never know where the heck they are! Thomas Hardy rolls over in his grave!

And “stones” as an element of weight, whiskey tango foxtrot. Now I have to multiply by 14??

And, and, and...

—oh yeah, when I was there on a choir tour, five months pregnant with the last kid, and I tried to find a place that served a dang glass of milk, they all looked at me as if I had horns sprouting from my forehead! And let’s don’t EVEN get into iced tea!

And the sun didn’t set until nearly midnight and was back up at 4 am; a girl’s gotta sleep, folks!

I am so far behind in getting things ready for planting.

Today, I noticed that the rose campions (lychnis) behind the garage had apparently reseeded (prolifically, I will add) in the buckets I left outside last winter with dirt in them. I've never seen that happen before. I hate to toss those because they are so drought tolerant. I have no idea where I'll put them.

I also noticed that I have a lot of in-ground and container sage and oregano to thin. And I guess I might try to start some early cuttings on those instead of planting seeds this year.

I just haven't had the energy to do anything out there and am really far behind.

Finally got some seedlings into the ground, plus the direct-sow peas are coming up (WAY behind on those.) Three out of four beds built. I added wheat straw at the base of each. Supposedly it was low in seeds, but I’m now battling an eruption of wheat. 😡 The potted herbs on the corner of the deck came back from last year, much to my surprise. Yay for being too lazy to throw them out last fall! Posted the pic just because I like the sign, which contains a lot of truth.

And yes, erethang still needs moppin. Gardens look like a whole lot of nuthin in early April in zone 7A.

You are ahead of me a little bit. Got my garden beds cleaned out today. Green bean sprouts are just about ready to be placed in the ground. Gonna wait towards the end of the month To plant tomatoes and peppers. My wife asked me to sow Chinese broccoli too. We’ll see what happens.

Got rid of carpenter bees two years ago, caulked the few holes they had started in my porch woodwork. No problem with them last year. This year, there’s a plethora of them buzzing around the yard. Every attempt they’ve made to chew the into the woodwork, I’ve treated with sweet almond oil. It’s working to discourage them so far.

I keep reading not to start beans indoors (transplant cranky.) I did start peas inside, and they did fine. Do you use peat pots for the beans?

I start my vining beans in plastic containers every year before planting in the ground. I grab the six count Bonnie containers from Home Depot.

Weather cooperating, I will get my vegetable garden planted within the next seven days.
Well, my trusty little garden rototiller wouldn’t start, Sunday. This thwarted my plans to till in the compost and plant the garden. Tiller is in the shop (want that compost in). Will have to plant later.

I have prob 15 different irises, some bulbs some rhizomes. All of them were donors, but I bought some this year for the first time. Also bought some primrose that got planted yesterdayView attachment 362080
I picked up two sorry-looking promises primroses but the bees are all over them, along with the pieris.

The pollinators were AWOL last year when I needed them for the tomatoes etc., so I’m trying to keep them interested this year.

Edit: geeze Louise, Apple.

When I first had them, they were donors. Whenever I've moved I take flowers with me. Those didn't make it. So I planted them from seed this year.
